A Guitarra Portuguesa tem atualmente dois modelos. Este modelo de Coimbra, distingue-se facilmente do de Lisboa. A sua caixa harmónica, quando vista de frente, tem uma forma mais alongada (tipo pêra) que a de Lisboa e a sua cabeça termina com uma “lágrima”.

One of the most mesmerising experiences that I had recently was witnessing Fado live at @cidadedegoa The fado is the iconic music genre of Portugal, now on the List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and introduced to Goa by the colonizers. A fado performance usually has one vocalist accompanied by the guitarra portuguesa and the viola de fado (fado guitar). Cidade de Goa has always been synonymous with Fado in Goa although it was my first time of watching the performances live and there could be no one better than Sonia Shirsat @soniashirsat to listen to. Her voice and the beautiful setting of Alfama designed like a Portugal city square, simply transported me to the by lanes of Lisbon. While you enjoy Fado, you are also served a delectable 4 course meal at Alfama. For the obvious reasons of respecting an artist’s performance, the courses are served over different breaks, and you watch the performance in complete silence and with undivided attention. With all efforts to keep this culture alive and also promoting young talent, Cidade Goa will be hosting these nights of music and fine dine every first Tuesday of the month and in my opinion its 100% worth your while. Like they say ‘Music has no language’ so whether you relate to the culture or not, the music has all the magic to keep you bound.
