We decided to change our plans and stay longer in Zanzibar, so we are adding an extra 6 days to our stay.

We had lunch at the pool bar. We ordered starters and mains. J’s Greek salad was gigantic – it was bigger than some Greek salads we’ve had in other places. S loved his tuna tataki and the pickled vegetables on the side. S also like his crayfish pasta. J’s first burger was screwed up, but they brought her another one with extra crumbled cheese.

As we were finishing lunch, one of the bartenders came by to ask for feedback about his Cosmopolitans. S said they were great. The guy, Said, said he used to be the head bartender at the Park Hyatt until he, and a lot of the other bartenders there, left and moved to Zuri. This might explain why the quality of the drinks was not great at the Park Hyatt. Since he was muslim, S asked if he samples his own drinks. He laughed and said of course, he does it all the time as he’s one of the muslims who drinks.

We then hung out at the pool. One group was blasting rap music. We asked them politely if they wouldn’t mind turning it down a bit, and they nicely did. While S hung out at the pool, J went off to lie in a hammock in the shade.

As there was a seafood barbecue at the beach today, dinner at the usual buffet restaurant was a set menu instead. This was the worst food we had here, with one exception, dessert. The staff accommodated our request to go off menu for dessert, so J had watermelon and S had coconut ice cream. It was without a doubt the best coconut ice cream we’ve ever had. It was delicious and was peppered with coconut flakes. 

We will be avoiding the set menu when we come back after the safari, but will be seeking out the coconut ice cream. One lady was celebrating her birthday, so the staff went around the restaurant singing, dancing and beating a drum before delivering her cake. Since there were just a few of us, we all joined in and clapped.
