The question had haunted Legendās mind ever since Hyruleās casual statement back in the dungeon. Legend had tried not to think about it, focusing on matters of teamwork and safety rather than information that could turn his dynamic with the group upside down. He had always assumed⦠how had Hyrule sounded so sure? Was the kid just more observant? Legend rarely saw Hyrule hanging around Four. Actually, Four didnāt really socialize with anyone. He kind of just bounced around to where he was needed, and stayed quiet otherwise.
Four was very secretive about himself, but admittedly Legend had never gone up and just⦠asked him.
There was a good chance that Legend was about to make a fool of himself, but he grabbed a bowl of stew from Wild and chose to sit beside Four. The smith had been staring into the campfire, and looked curiously at Legend as he made himself comfortable.
āThereās still plenty of room over there,ā Four pointed out mildly, pointing to the other side of camp where Legend usually sat.
āYeah,ā Legend said. Damn it, he felt like Four was already seeing right through him. How could he ask this casually?
āDid you want something?ā Four asked, his voice still light. Nonjudgemental.
āHow old are you?ā Legend blurted out.
Fourās eyes widened. His eyebrows raised, ever so slightly, on the verge of disappearing into his headband. Then he snickered, his hand too slow to cover his grin. āThatās- you- are you so concerned about that?ā
Legendās face was burning. He very pointedly did not check how many people were staring at him right now. āIām just curious! Hyrule said something a while ago and I havenāt been able to stop wondering. Iām not judging you, I know you donāt like being treated like a child or anything. I get it. I just⦠wanted to know.ā
āHm.ā Four nudged a chunk of carrot into his spoon, lifted it, then watched it fall back into the stew. āI most recently drew the Four Sword when I was around fourteen. Itās been about two years since then.ā
Legend gawked at him. āā¦Thatās it?ā
āWhat do you mean, thatās it? I canāt manipulate time like he can.ā Four pointed to the eldest of their group, who was watching them bemusedly as he took apart his plate armor to clean it.
āYouāre only sixteen? You said youāre older than Wind but somehow I thought you were older than me.ā
Four cackled, āIāve never been read for twenty before! Iāll take that as a compliment.ā
āTwenty? Wait, how old do you think I am?ā
āWith the amount of quests youāve done? Nineteen, at least.ā
āNo, Iām seventeen. I met Ravio about a year ago. I never stop exploring, thatās all.ā
āWow.ā
āHang on, weāre the same age?ā Wild butted in. āI canāt believe all those times I let you boss me around.ā
āWHAT TIMES!?ā
āHyrule, do you have something to share?ā Four asked before Legend could spring up and strangle Wild.
Hyrule crossed his arms, his smug grin making Legendās blood run cold. āIām older than Legend.ā
Legend covered his face and screamed.
āThis, of course, is news to Legend,ā Hyrule continued brightly.
āI thought you were like sixteen,ā Legend mumbled into his hands.
āI was, two years ago.ā
āSo I thought that Four was older than me⦠and Four thought that I was older than Wild⦠and Hyruleās the only one who knew that heās older than me and Four is the second youngest⦠is there anybody else we should know about?ā
āIām sixty, if that helps,ā Time said.
āShut up, old man.ā
