The Chivalrous Thief Who Believes in Bonds

Obtainability: Limited to completing missions for the Puella Historia Campaign.

MLB Effect: Flame Attribute Attack Up [10%] & Blast Damage Up [20%]

Effect Definitions:

Flame Attribute Attack Up will increase a unit’s base attack stats when they use a Flame-attribute attack. It functions similarly to Attack Up and even stacks with it, but it won’t contribute to Attack Up’s Percentage Ceiling.

Blast Damage Up is a straightforward buff that means Blast Discs will deal more damage. Blast Damage Up has a capped percentage at 100%.

TLDR: “The Chivalrous Thief Who Believes in Bonds” is a decent free-to-play friendly memoria with a scary amount of ATK stats. However its two effects are low for their percentages, so it’s not overpowered. You can equip this on Flame Blast-type supports.

Review: Before saying anything else, “The Chivalrous Thief Who Believes in Bonds” has a truly terrifying amount of passive ATK. In fact...

As of writing this review, it has the most passive ATK in the entire game! That’s including a bunch of limited gacha memoria! Impressive.

Less impressive are the effects’ percentages for “The Chivalrous Thief Who Believes in Bonds”. Flame Attribute Attack Up and Blast Damage Up are both good effects, but at 10% and 20% respectively, this memoria might feel a bit lacking.

However, this isn’t absolutely terrible either. For a Free-to-Play player, this memoria is going to be extremely helpful on Flame blasters-- so its best to use this on units like Chizuru, Kyoko Sakura, Swimsuit Kyoko, Doppel Kyoko, Juri Ooba, and Ranka Chizu.

It’s questionable how useful this memoria will be for Whales. Attack Up has a 100% cap ceiling, so many players will use Attribute Attack Up to stack a similar effect without contributing to said ceiling. However, “The Chivalrous Thief Who Believes in Bonds” means sacrificing a LOT of potential buffs for only a small 10% in Flame Attribute Attack Up. It’s also entirely possible that if the player is capped on Attack Up, they also might be capped on Blast Damage Up, meaning that all this memoria can offer is a pitiful 10% Flame Attribute Attack Up and some truly menacing ATK stats. 

Other things to consider for players would be if other (semi) free-to-play friendly memoria are better or worse to use than this one, such as:

(Limited Welfare 4*) “Being Myself, With Pride” Blast Damage Up [25%] & Attack Up While At Max Health [25%] & Defense Down (Self) [15%]

Obviously on non-flame units the answer is that all of the above are better to use. On Flame units the answer is more tricky. Personally, memoria like “I'll Continue to Shoulder the Burden” and “Being Myself, With Pride” are superior to use thanks to their secondary effects. However, memoria like “An Entrance Backed by a Column of Clouds” or “Never Forget” are trickier-- my gut feeling is that “The Chivalrous Thief Who Believes in Bonds” is better to use, but I don’t feel like doing the legwork to check that out.

Gorge of Fate

Obtainability: Limited to the “Mirage of Alexandria” event gacha.

Single Effect: Attack Up [20%] & Defense Down (Self) [20%]

MLB Effect: Attack Up [25%] & Defense Down (Self) [20%]

Effect Definitions:

Attack Up increases the equipped character’s base stats, meaning that its effects are calculated before buffs/debuffs are considered. The effect caps at 100%.

Defense Down decreases the target’s base defense.

TLDR: “Gorge of Fate” has high Attack Up for a three-star memoria, comparable to some limited four-stars. It comes with the drawback of Defense Down on self and having low passive ATK stats, making this a decent memoria for new players/some free-to-play players and possible Enhancement Fodder for anyone else.

Review: “Gorge of Fate” is actually a pretty decent three-star memoria for any new player or even a few free-to-play players due to its high Attack Up effect. Attack Up at 25% is actually higher than some four-star memoria in the game and even equivalent to several limited four-star memoria. 

However, there are two drawbacks to this memoria as well. The most obvious drawback would be the Defense Down on self. Defense Down at 20% on the equipped character isn’t great. It’s not as bad as it could be-- quite a few memoria in the game actually can inflict Defense Down on self (in return for high Attack Up), but it’s still something to note. It makes using this memoria more of a gamble, as it will give you high Attack in return for making the unit a glass cannon of sorts.

This means that “Gorge of Fate” is best used on characters with three or more blast discs, as they have a better chance to kill everyone on the field before the enemies have a chance to attack in return-- that, or you want some form of tank who can take the hits for your now fragile unit.

The second issue is less obvious, however “Gorge of Fate” is a three-star memoria. On one hand this makes it easy to max-awaken in comparison to a four-star memoria-- you just need to use some easily acquired Over-Limiters. On the other hand, it means it has three-star memoria passive stats, and that passive ATK is atrocious. Even though it might have more Attack Up than a memoria such as “I Made Friends,” IMF is still superior to use when Max-Awakened thanks to its secondary effect and better ATK stats.

You can compare “Blown by the Dust” to memoria such as:

(3*) “Maiden's Secret Etiquette” Attack Up [20%] & Defense Down (Self) [25%]

Shining Like the Setting Sun

Obtainability: Limited for the “Sayonara Storage” event shop. This is event bonus memoria and it should be kept in case of a rerun.

MLB Effect: Defense Down [10%] & Defense Down Further [15%] (One / 1 Turn)

Effect Definitions:

Defense Down decreases the target’s base defense.

Defense Down Further is similar to Defense Down, as it decreases the target’s base defense.

TLDR: “Shining Like the Setting Sun” is surprisingly helpful, particularly as it let you wipe out Anti-Debuff on the enemy team (especially concerning the 100 Evils).

Review: “Shining Like the Setting Sun” isn’t a groundbreaking memoria, but it’s also not too bad for anyone new to the game or to some free-to-play players. It offers a collective total of 25% Defense Down towards an enemy target-- initially this might seem pretty mediocre considering a single copy of “The Way Home after the Rain (Mito)” gives 40% Defense Down... to all targets, with a lower cooldown to boot.

However it’s never a bad thing to have multiple copies of Defense Down. Additionally, there is another benefit to “Shining Like the Setting Sun:” the fact that it has two debuff effects instead of one means that you can use it to clear off pesky Anti-Debuff off of enemies. 

Now, clearing off Anti-Debuff tends to be more important for Mirrors Ranking given that annoying units like Madoka & Iroha exist, who will give their entire team 2 stacks of Anti-Debuff from the start of the fight. “Shining Like the Setting Sun” has a cooldown that is slightly too long to be useful in Ranking for this purpose. However, Anti-Debuff can be found outside of Ranking too-- one notable example includes the recent horrifyingly difficult Anniversary 100 evils from Stardust Mirage. The last battle gave the entire team stacks of Anti-Debuff, making it difficult to Mito Rain away their Attack and Defense.

However, “Shining Like the Setting Sun” means you can use this memoria as Anti-Anti-Debuff fodder to wipe out two stacks of it, letting you use better and more powerful Debuff memoria afterwards.

One last thing important to note is that “Shining Like the Setting Sun” isn’t actually the best memoria in the game for this-- no, it actually belongs to what was considered before a pretty pathetic and useless memoria:

(4*) “An Uncrossable Gap” Magia Damage Down [35%] & Accele MP Gain Down [27.5%] (All / 1 Turn)

This memoria has a low cooldown (good for Mirrors!) and will apply two debuffs to the entire enemy team, making it extremely useful.

That doesn’t mean that “Shining Like the Setting Sun” is useless of course-- who knows what horrible team you’ll be fighting in the future. If you’ve unlucky enough that you’ve never gotten a Mito Rain, then this memoria should be helpful with increasing your damage a little bit at least.

Dawn of a Shallow Dream

MLB Effect: Damage Up Versus Witches [30%] & Regenerate HP [4%]

Effect Definitions:

Damage Up Versus Witches deals more damage to Witches and their familiars (this does not include Uwasa or Kimochi enemies). Damage dealt is increased by the % shown. This effect stacks with Damage Increase and Damage Up.

Regenerate HP will cause the equipped character to regenerate a percentage of their HP for the number of listed turns. The Regen will occur at the end of the turn (note: the end of the enemy’s turn). Regenerate HP can stack.

TLDR: “Dawn of a Shallow Dream” is a very handy memoria that will provide a great damage boost against witches and their familiars thanks to its high effect and great passive ATK stats. This memoria is exclusive to logging in during the Magia Record Season Three Blu-Ray and DVD volume two Release Campaign.

Review: “Dawn of a Shallow Dream” is actually a pretty decent memoria, and you should definitely try to log on during the Release Campaign to get it. It’s not the only memoria in the game with the effect of Damage Up Versus Witches, but so far all of these memoria are limited to event rewards of some form (meaning they’re unlikely to return):

(Limited 4*) “Dawn of a Shallow Dream” Damage Up Versus Witches [30%] & Regenerate HP [4%]  

(Limited 4*) “Happy Halloween NANO” Damage Up Versus Witches [30%] & Status Ailment Resistance Up [25%]

(Limited 4*) “Victory Goes Through Time” Damage Up Versus Witches [20%] &  Attack Up [15%] & Regenerate HP [3%]

Damage Up Versus Witches should function similarly to Damage Up/Damage Increase. That means the 30% Damage Up here is roughly equivalent to 25% Attack Up-- which is pretty good! The catch to this of course is that the memoria is only going to give you that offensive bonus against witches and their familiars. However, this isn’t as bad as it sounds, because the vast majority of fights you’ll encounter will be against familiars, making this a pretty neat freebie memoria for generic battles. Add in the excellent passive ATK stats it has and you have a great free-to-play friendly powerhouse of a memoria on your hands.

You can easily compare this memoria to these two:

(Limited 4*) “Walking an Entwined Path” Damage Increase [30%] & Regenerate HP [5%]

(4*) “Ryouko and Sakuya: Moment of Perfection” Damage Increase [30%] & Regenerate HP [5%]

Both of them are very good thanks to that 30% Damage Increase, however they both also have pretty poor ATK stats. In contrast, “Dawn of a Shallow Dream” will outperform them (assuming you’re fighting witches and familiars).

However, it’s important to also recognize what content this memoria will be good to use with and what content it won’t-- for example, this memoria will do nothing for you but act as a Regenerate HP stat stick for Kimochi or Mirrors. It also won’t help in content like the One Hundred Evils, as you only face magical girls in it.

Yet, you still might find use for it in harder content. For example, EX-Challenges don’t always have magical girls as opponents-- they can include witches and familiars on occasion too. Additionally, this memoria is excellent for the Witches’ Paradox, as all you do in there is fight witches!

Overall this is a really good example of a memoria that is extremely valuable for free-to-play players without being overpowered or providing a massive advantage to Whales. It provides a good boost for most of the fights in the game while also not being useful for endgame content, like Kimochi. 

Lastly, this memoria will not help against Uwasa! Uwasa and their familiars can seem kind of similar to Witches, but they are not considered the same in the game and for this effect. So double check if you decide to use this memoria that it’s actually a Witch and not an Uwasa.

Currently on a Hostile Inspection

MLB Effect: Accele MP Gain Up [17.5%] & Attack Up [15%]

Effect Definitions:

Accele MP Gain Up will increase the amount of MP gained by using Accele discs.

Attack Up increases the equipped character’s base stats, meaning that its effects are calculated before buffs/debuffs are considered. The effect caps at 100%.

TLDR: “Currently on a Hostile Inspection” is a good freebie memoria for budget Magia teams. It’s best used on characters who have two or more Accele disks.

This memoria is exclusive to the “Passion is Sharp, Love is Rounded” event shop. This is event memoria and it should be kept in case of a rerun.

Review: “Currently on a Hostile Inspection” is a decent event shop memoria that should serve Free-to-Play players well on low-budget Magia teams.

Interestingly enough, this memoria is the same as two other Event Shop memoria:

(Limited 3*) “Never Allow Will to Be Erased” Accele MP Gain Up [17.5%] & Attack Up [15%]

(Limited 3*) “Something to Remember” Accele MP Gain Up [17.5%] & Attack Up [15%]

“Never Allow Will to Be Erased” and “Currently on a Hostile Inspection” both have the same amount of ATK stats while “Something to Remember” has less. Otherwise, all three are pretty decent and should be good options for Accele MP Gain Up memoria if you don’t have any four-star options to choose from.

Otherwise, “Currently on a Hostile Inspection” is going to be good for Magia teams and on characters that will be using Accele disks. Its two effects synergize well, as Attack Up won’t just increase the damage attacks do, but also the damage a Doppel or Magia will do as well.

Little Summer Vacation

Obtainability: Limited for the “Rainbow Colored Summer” event. This is an event reward memoria.

MLB Effect: Blast Damage Up [35%] & Damage Up [15%] (Self / 1 Turn)

Effect Definitions:

Blast Damage Up is a straightforward buff that means Blast Discs will deal more damage. Blast Damage Up has a capped percentage at 100%.

Damage Up will increase the damage done by the equipped character’s attacks and its effect takes place after the buffs and debuffs are calculated. Damage Increase and Damage Up are essentially the same effect, however Damage Up has a 100% cap while Damage Increase doesn’t. Both collectively cap at 300%.

TLDR: “Little Summer Vacation” is a decent freebie event reward memoria. It’s useful for Blast damage teams and the fact that the damage is spread out across Damage Up and Blast Damage Up means it’ll be harder to cap on both, which is very helpful considering how easy it is to cap on those two effects. There are much better memoria to use in the game, but still-- this one comes max awakened.

Whales and long-term players who have amassed a large wealth of memoria will find this one to become Enhancement Fodder.

Review: “Little Summer Vacation” is a decent event reward memoria. It’s nothing too amazing, but it’s not Enhancement Fodder either. The Blast Damage Up is slightly on the low side, but this is made up for by the Damage Up effect (which is also slightly low). Altogether the two effects will make for about 50% Damage Up on an attack that uses Blasts, which is pretty good all things considered.

Let’s take a look at other Blast Damage Up active memoria in the game for comparison’s sake:

You might be able to notice that “Little Summer Vacation” is the free version of the unlimited four-star memoria “Behind the Scene Performance,” which gives 40% Blast Damage Up and 20% Damage Increase when max awaked. Strictly speaking, “Behind the Scene Performance” is better to use when it’s Max Awakened because of its better percentages, stats, and cooldown. But what if you only have one copy of “Behind the Scene Performance?” Funny enough, a single copy of “Behind the Scene Performance” and the already max-awakened “Little Summer Vacation” give the same percentages for Blast Damage Up (35%) and Damage Up (15%).

That means a single copy of “Behind the Scene Performance” is the same as “Little Summer Vacation;” however there are still small differences that might lead you to choose one over the other. “Little Summer Vacation” will have better passive DEF stats as it’s fully awakened, while “Behind the Scene Performance” still manages to have a better cooldown as a single copy (7 turns versus 8 turns). So which one you use depends on your needs-- do you want more protection on your character? Then “Little Summer Vacation” is better. Do you want a slightly shorter cooldown? Then “Behind the Scene Performance” is better.

Overall though, “Little Summer Vacation” is still pretty nice for free-to-play players. It should be very useful on Blast Damage teams-- spreading out the damage buff over Damage Up and Blast Damage Up means it’ll be harder to cap on either of them, particularly helpful for Blast Damage Up when it’s so easy to do so.

You can equip this on your Supports if you wish; just make sure they have two or more blast discs and can reasonably expect to use them.

Sisters

MLB Effect: MP Gain Up [10%] & Regenerate HP [4%] (Self / 3 Turns)

Effect Definitions:

MP Gain Up increases the MP gained from all sources, including Accele Discs, Charge Discs, damage taken by the equipped character, and activating an ability that gives them MP Restore or Regenerate MP.

Regenerate HP will cause the equipped character to regenerate a percentage of their HP for the number of listed turns. The Regen will occur at the end of the turn (note: the end of the enemy’s turn). This effect will stack.

TLDR: “Sisters” is an excellent memoria, and is great for Magia Teams. It’s similar to several other Event Shop memoria in the game but is more defensive comparatively. It will be good for Free-to-Play players and Whales alike. This is event memoria for “Homecoming” and should be kept in case of a rerun. This memoria is exclusive to the “Homecoming” event shop.

Review: “Sisters” is an excellent memoria because MP Gain Up memoria are rare. It makes for another valuable addition to the following welfare memoria lineup:

(Limited 3*) “Hands Linked to the Unraveled Thread” MP Gain Up [10%] & Damage Up [15%] (Self / 3 turns)

(Limited 3*) “Talking About the Future, the Oni Laughs” MP Gain Up [10%] & Magia Damage Up [15%] (Self / 3 Turns)

Unlike these three though, “Sisters” doesn’t have a damage-boosting secondary effect; it has Regenerate HP instead. The Regenerate HP isn’t as useful in comparison but that doesn’t mean “Sisters” is bad. The primary effect “MP Gain Up” more than makes up for it, as these kinds of memoria are always useful to have around. Even whales will find a memoria like “Sisters” to be helpful, as there are no impressive Four-Star versions of it to obtain.

I’ve even seen Whales use these Welfare MP Gain Up event shop memoria in high-end Kimochi, where every bit of MP is squeezed out to meet certain thresholds. It can mean the difference between getting to Magia or being stuck at 98 MP with no options left.

Obviously, “Sisters” is going to be good for Magia teams. The Regenerate HP may not be great for high-end content, but it might actually be better for Magia Stall Teams. Of course, you don’t want to activate “Sisters” just for when you need a heal-- ideally you use it at the same time you want to increase your MP Gain. 

Because Regenerate HP works at the end of an enemy’s turn, this makes “Sisters” ideal for situations where you know the equipped user will be taking hits. Similar to “Like This Since When,” this means the memoria will synergize well for tanks and any character that is trying to take advantage of the effect “MP Up When Attacked By Weak Element.”
