why I think saying âf*ck 2016âł is stupid
...and full disclosure, I use a strong word like stupid because constantly mincing your words gets old...Â
Saying that an entire year was crap, or saying f*ck 2016 is in my opinion no different than saying âeverything happens for a reasonâ which is a piece of waffle I despise for how it causes people to assign responsibility for failure, unhappiness and dissatisfaction to an abstract entity, absolving them of any of the blame for things not working out the way they wanted.Â
A year (like 2016, 2017, or any other assortment of numbers) is a worldwide agreed upon demarcation of time, which otherwise without said agreement would be a thing we meandered through without thinking that the way things happened and their manner had anything to do with having had occurred in said particular time frame. Bad things happen all the time, unplanned things happen all the time. We fall down. We make mistakes. Things donât work out. People pass on - itâs sad as hell but itâs a part of life, and when I see people posting this sort of thing I see them avoiding life, as opposed to meeting it head on, like youâre supposed to.
An entire year of your life isnât ruined because one awful thing happened in one week, and for goodness sake donât be one of those people putting gigantic amounts of pressure on themselves to kick off a new year to a super solid start, and then positing their success or failure as a portent for how that year is good or bad.Â
