The hired car drove through the gates of the resort, past the main buildings to a secluded area where the private villas where. The driver got your door and unloaded your bags as you admired the modern glass bungalow in front of you, an oasis in the middle of the desert just like the website promised. 

The sun had set a long time ago but the heat and humidity lingered in the air. You tapped your nails against the glass control panel before giving up on trying to turn on the air conditioning. Your priority right now was to try to wash the travel off your skin in the shower. While under the cool eucalyptus scented spray you couldn’t help but notice the brightly lit infinity pool from the window. The turquoise water was calling to you, especially since the air conditioning still hadn’t magically turned on.

You stepped out of the shower, towelled off, and walked outside to the pool deck. There was not another villa for miles so you weren’t too worried about your modesty. You were actually more worried about Max slipping on one of the puddles you had left on the polished concrete floor of the bathroom but it was hot so maybe it would dry before he got here.

You grabbed a pool float from the villa’s storage, placed it in the water, and climbed on top. You weren’t planning on falling asleep but the tiredness in your bones, the gently twinkling of the stars and soft rhythm of the water all blended together to lull you to sleep.

You were awoken by water being splashed on your naked torso. You groaned, rolling over to see Max smirking at you. The sky was even darker than when you had gotten into the pool. He was sitting on the edge of the pool with legs dangling into the water his pants rolled up to just below his knees. "I didn't know they had mermaids in the desert."

Maybe it was just the long flight and his tiredness but you really did look like a mystical being floating so ethereally on the water and surrounded by cacti and the desert foliage. Your body looked so soft and luscious and positioned in a way that beckoned to Max like you were his own personal siren calling to him to his own demise.

You rolled your eyes. "Did you watch Aquamarine on the plane or something?"

Max ignored your comment and leaned over so far you were worried he might fall into the water. However, he managed to grab onto the edge of your float and pulled you to where he was sitting by the pool. He wrapped his strong arms around your soft torso and pulled you off the float and onto his lap.
