when I am in a bad place, the worst of me comes out. My insecurities are followed by overcompensation— projection and narcissism manifest in certain ways. That sounds brutal, but I feel like you have to be cutthroat when you want to change something ab yourself. Why would I beat around the bush about who I can be if parts of the mirror break when I look at it? Knowing your worst is what gets you to your best, because you have a radar that you can use to clock your thought process.
I really try not to come across as arrogant or anything like that. I think confidence just comes from a certain level of self respect or maybe just the basic knowledge that every voice deserves dignity, so I have a right to my voice.
I am sure of what I’m doing because it works for me, but that has nothing to do with what other people are doing. I don’t even think I’m better than anyone at all— I don’t really think like that. It’s more like I’m doing my thing and I share it because I feel like I have something to prove and I hope someone’s watching because the root of everything I do is to be understood after a lifetime of being misunderstood.
I am trying to be more virtuous, trying to become the Shepard. I have a mental list of virtues to clock the same way Ben Franklin did. We both shared the virtue with the most lack: pride. But what could be wrong with pride if it has nothing to do with comparison? I think everyone should feel like a winner, and by should I mean that anyone, no matter who they are, totally has a reason to be confident— to be proud.
Basically I just say what I want to say, if no one listens whatever. Regardless, where all of this was going— I am trying to transition from so much introspection to extrospection. I am trying to use my free will to become more involved and connected with others— I now have the wisdom I need to understand the depths some people can go to and compassion for humanity because of it.
My dilemma has been myself. I cannot turn of the wall I have so intensely built— it only goes down for people that have always known me. I think it comes from being let down so much that it’s not even like I stopped expecting people to be right for me, I just stopped wanting it.
In one way— I am having so much fun being completely myself, even if it turns more people away. It’s fun and it’s free and I think the whole point of sifting through your trauma is to distill your potency down to a shot instead of a pint. In another way, I have never felt more alone.
The idea of professionalism is so fucking weird. The more I think about it the more off the wall it seems.
At face value, "hey, don't let you personal life color your work. Be professional." makes sense... Until you realize you're being asked to put aside who you are as a human in favor of better performing whatever role you're employed for. A better request from management might be, "Hey could you please be the exact one dimensional caricature I need to best serve the company. Become better aligned with the ideals of the cult... Er... The culture. The corporate culture. Yes."
Like, I get "he's very professional" is a compliment... But it's just becoming increasingly horrifying to me that we, as humans, are expected to never relate to each other AS HUMANS within a "professional" setting... And further, what other settings even exist anymore?
