Elide walked through the front door and nearly stumbled, filled with exhaustion. It had been a long week, to say the least, and now that it was Friday night, all she wanted to do was relax.
āElide?ā
Lorcanās voice filled the silence.
āHey,ā she called back, yawning as she slipped off her shoes.Ā āHow was your-ā
But Lorcan was coming around the corner, bare-chested, sweatpants hanging loosely on his hips. He was smiling.Ā
He was always up to something when he was smiling.Ā
āClose your eyes,ā he said, in way of greeting.
Elide gave him a suspicious look, but did as he asked, nonetheless.
Lorcanās hands were soon pulling up the hem of her scrubs.
āLorcan!ā she laughed.Ā āIām too tired-ā
āDonāt worry,ā he said, softly, pulling her top over her head.Ā āI donāt plan on groping you.ā He was slipping her pants down her legs when he added,Ā āYet.ā
Elide laughed, but yelped again when he unclasped her bra.Ā āI swear-ā
āNot something I havenāt seen a million times,ā he muttered, tossing her garments aside.
Elide soon felt a baggy, soft fabric pull over her head and down her body. She slipped her arms through the sleeves. She opened her eyes, once more, and met Lorcanās soft gaze.
She was in one of his hoodies.
āWhat are you up to?ā she asked, fondly.
āI didnāt say you could open your eyes,ā he shot back.
Unable to stop her smile, Elideās eyes fell shut, once more. Her feet were soon swept off the ground, and she was being cradled against his warm chest. She melted into him, effortlessly.Ā
Lorcan carried her through the house, up the stairs, and down the hall until they were in their bedroom. He sat her down on the bed and slumped down next to her before saying,Ā āOkay. Open.ā
Elideās eyes fluttered open and she laughed, quietly. Every tense part of her body, every horror she had endured that day, all of it had faded away as she took in her surroundings.
Lorcan had put out a little tray of snacks, along with a bottle of wine, and hung up the string lights that she had bought for the back patio. Instead of hanging around their patio furniture, though, they were draped around their bedroom. On the t.v. on top of their dresser was the menu of the TitanicĀ DVD.Ā
She looked over at him. He was already watching her, surely taking in her reaction.
āYou hate this movie,ā she whispered.
āBecause itās a fucking awful movie,ā he muttered, grinning.Ā āBut, you love this movie, and I love you.ā
Elide reached across the bed and pressed her palm softly against his stubbled cheek.Ā āWell, love looks good on you, Lorcan Salvaterre. Thank you.āĀ Ā
Lorcanās grin widened as he pressed play, and tossed his arm around Elide. She snuggled into his chest as she grabbed a handful of chocolate-covered pretzels and shoved them into her mouth.Ā
As soon as the opening credits began, Lorcan muttered,Ā āThere was room for two, you know.ā
āShut up,ā she laughed.Ā āYour commentary isnāt welcome. Let me enjoy the love story. Ass.ā
Lorcanās body shook with laughter as she opened the wine and drunk it from the bottle. Half an hour in, Lorcan was already snoring. Elide loved it. She loved the man that planned an evening of relaxation with one of Elideās favorite movies, a bottle of Moscato, and her favorite snacks. She didnāt care if he fell asleep. It only proved how much effort he put into something, even if the movie playing was on hisĀ āthis is shitā list.
Elide climbed up on her knees and pressed her mouth against his neck. He hardly stirred. With quiet laughter, she snuggled up to his chest and watched the rest of the movie, listening to Lorcan snore softly in the background.
Ughughughuhgh this hurts so much. Iāve been in so much pain recently and going to the chiropractor hasnāt been working and Iāve tried physical therapy and I know there are still a lot of options of where to go from here, but these were the two best options and if these didnāt work I doubt anything else will :( I donāt know much about what surgery would be like, but I think I remember my doctor saying that it could be dangerous but like what else am I supposed to doā¦?
One task that has been particularly hard for me is showering. Not only does it require a lot of physical labor, but it also requires me to stand for a long time. Iāve tried asking my mom for a shower stool, but sheās refused. She thinks that standing for long periods of time will make me stronger and build my endurance, but all it does is put me in a lot of pain.
Iāve been getting a lot of pre-shower anxiety. I doubt Iām alone in this, but I never see any fellow chronic painers and spooners talking about it. I know itās normal to have anxiety when you know something is going to cause you pain (like anxiety about surgery or vaccines, or whatever), but when that thing is a daily task⦠idk it just feels so heartbreaking. Like wdym I have to deal w/ that every afternoon? Itās just not fair.
I also experienced post-shower every crashes so bad that I can barely get dressed or brush my teeth (I kinda have to brush my teeth, but Iāve begun just sleeping naked to avoid wasting energy on getting dressed). I used to be able to play on my computer until my bedtime but now I have to lay down in my bed on my phone.
Iām so tired and Iām in so much pain and I swear I try so hard but my mom thinks Iām not trying but I really am. Itās so hard to get out of bed and even sitting up puts me in so much pain.
Also I hate the cold so much. Itās started to get warmer here, but evertime I shiver it feels like so much wasted energy.
My anti-depressant have stopped working recently and I donāt know why. I canāt even tell if I feel better when Iām on or off them. I have an appointment to get a prescription in 2 days tho ig.,
I feel so scared that I wonāt be able to go to college or even get a job. Just when I think āhey, maybe this is actually possible for me,ā I get worse. I canāt go to college when I would be this unpredictable. I donāt even know what I could possibly do as a job. Are there even any good online jobs I can do from home? Could they pay for me to live independently? Iām so scared I want to be able to live an independent normal life, I really do.

Iāve been pretty busy lately writing. So yeah, I have half a chapter done already and it will probably be finished in the next few days, even though I just posted something yesterday. This is also the Narancia bit Iām not sure about. Thoughts?
Warning for gore. Itās Purple Haze, what do you expect?
Giorno had only seen it once before, a last resort in a hopeless battle. The Stand was a horrible thing, an erratic, unpredictable hazard to even its user.
Its arms jerked up, pulled by unseen strings, and drool seeped out from between the stitches that held its mouth shut.
The fight with Illuso had been chaos, a confusion of colliding realities that blended into a blur of action. What Giorno remembered was the sensation as the virus ate away the flesh of his hand. The experience had only lasted a few, merciful seconds, but it remained etched in his mind, cut deep with rough, bloody lines. It was an incomprehensible sight, seeing his skin bubble and run and splash onto the paving stones in little droplets like rainwater. No time for pain, no time to process what was happening, only that horrible liquid feeling as his fingertips melted like candles set alight.
The smell was sweet, like a field of flowers. A crow hit the ground, writhing and twisting, trying desperately to rip off its own wing, a mess of blood and feathers, and it smelled as sweet as a meadow in spring.
By all rights, Giorno should have lost his hand. It was a mangled mess of half-melted flesh clinging to slender bones, so stark white against the red. But he didnāt. The skin healed as soon as the virus left, the result of a power he didnāt even know he had yet.
Beside him, Narancia drew his switchblade and held it with trembling hands. Aerosmith circled tighter and tighter, the roar of the engine drowning out the footsteps. Narancia had been the closest to Fugo as far as Giorno could tell, but even he was afraid of his friendās Stand.
Fugo kept his head down as he walked, soft steps on the platformās concrete, Purple Haze by his side. The Stand noticed the other two, reaching out its hand as if to catch Aerosmith like a child trying to touch the moon. It let out a long, low moan as it suddenly jerked upwards again, standing uncomfortably straight. The next few steps were stumbling, fighting against an invisible force pushing it forward, and then the hesitation was gone and the strange puppet movement returned.
āFugo!ā Narancia yelled, brandishing his knife. āThe fuck you think youāre doing?! Put that thing away!ā
No response.
āItās me, you dumbass!ā Naranciaās whole body shook. It was always surprising that such a small person could yell so loudly. āWake the fuck up!ā
Giorno shook his head. āHeās being controlled.ā
Narancia didnāt seem to hear him. āQuit ignoring me!ā
And as if all else had been silenced, a single sound cut through. A quiet, joyless laugh. Fugo looked up, his eyes meeting with Naranciaās, laughing. āIdiot.ā
āThe fuck you say?!ā
āIdiot,ā Fugo said, his voice measured and cold. āYouāre such an idiot, Narancia.ā
āNarancia,ā Giorno said. āHeās trying to mess with you. Calm down, please. Itās not Fugo.ā
āDonāt bother.ā Fugo was addressing Giorno now, the same, steady pace in his speech. āHeās too stupid to understand.ā
The roar of bullets rent the air as Aerosmith swooped down in front of Giorno and fired. Fugo didnāt so much as raise his hand to block. He didnāt need to. The shots flew harmlessly past his left ear and sprayed out across the ground behind him. Narancia wasnāt aiming to kill.
āSee?ā Fugo said. āHeās a lost cause. Couldnāt even finish elementary school.ā
āShut up!ā Naranciaās voice sounded thick, and Giorno realized he was crying. āShut up, you fucking traitor!ā
āYou want to know why I left, Narancia?ā
Giorno scanned for a weakness, something, anything. He had to stop Fugo talking as soon as he could. Narancia and Fugo fighting wasnāt anything new, but never like this. The two were at each otherās throats morning to night, always a good-natured sort of fighting, the sort Narancia could handle. Fugoās departure had been hard on him, but Buccellati had been there and Narancia saw their capo as stability in human form, so much of the impact had been dulled somewhat.
There was something so young about Narancia. He was actually older than Giorno by a few years, but that didnāt make a difference; he was still a kid. It showed in his body, short and slender and almost delicate, in his girlish face and his high voice. And yet, defying all belief, Narancia was happy in his childishness. Giorno couldnāt remember a time when he didnāt wish to be grown up, when he hadnāt tried his hardest to be mistaken for older than he was. Childhood was a curse, but it was one that Narancia cherished.
āI left because I couldnāt stand another second with you.ā
This time, Giorno was ready. A small tree erupted out of a nearby light pole, thick branches twisting into each other to form a wooden shield. The bullets embedded themselves in it with a solid thud, stopping short on a direct course to Fugoās skull.
āNarancia!ā Giorno said. āLet me handle him!ā It was too late for Narancia to run, had been for a while, but he wasnāt in any state to fight.
With that terrible sweet scent, the tree cracked and splintered and fell away into a puddle. Behind it was Purple Haze, fist outstretched, one orb already broken, leaking out its virus. Narancia took a step back and nodded at Giorno. āFine. But if you die, Iāll kill him.ā
That was Naranciaās way of doing things. He was hot-headed and impulsive, but never questioned Buccellati. Obedient, deferential to authority. Childish.
Giorno quickly located his savior: a small shard from Purple Hazeās hand. That had been his winning strategy the last time. His immediate goal was clear. He had to reach that shard, turn it into an animal, and immunize himself with the blood.
