A long time favourite of mine --- Why am I only writing about it now!?Â
Poffee Canteen has been around for a few years now and I first discovered it when I was asking around for some place new to go to for my birthday dinner last year.
My experience there felt so special and warm. I actually walked over there, built up a major sweat, just to ask the owner if I should make a reservation or not.Â
After telling me it wouldnât be necessary, she asked me to take a seat, and gave me a pitcher of water. She told me to just take my time before going out in the eat again. I chatted her up for a bit before leaving, looking forward to coming again on my birthday.
* Thanks to a google user for posting this of the store front!!Â
On that day, we were greeted and set up a large table with no if ands or buts. The owner still had a very polite and positive attitude just like the day I came in. Honestly, its so great to be recognized when you go somewhere :)
--- Okay so finally, almost a year later, I went back ---
Going down the same dark-looking street, this shop sits at the end with almost no light in sight when you set out looking for it.
I noticed more dried flowers and hand-made things for sale outside and inside the tiny, well-decorated interior.Â
Right as I walked in âLong time no see!â
Oh my god, a year later, and she still remembers me XDÂ
Honestly, Iâm touched by the strangest things XDÂ
I noticed the place is fuller than I remember anytime before, and with the hipster crowd youâd expect to be in this type of place.
Ordering the same thing I did before, the meat looks a bit darker, but the taste was as I remember --- just like a sloppy joe ... who doesnât love that !?!?
With pairings similar to last time, yellow watermelon, a tofu dessert, and yoghurt with fruit or berries, I was satisfied with not only the service, interior design, but again with the food :)Â
I left wondering ... why has it been a year since Iâve been here!?!?!Â

Before you decide to hire an airport car service, you should know that there are several different options to choose from. The airport car services usually have a large fleet of vehicles and may even provide the parking for your car as well.
Your hire company should also be able to provide you with more than just a lift. They should be able to meet all your transport needs. Here are some of the other things you can expect from an airport car service:
There are many different types of vehicles and it is up to you to find one that will be appropriate for your possible needs. It is a good idea to choose a vehicle that is both practical and convenient. There are several rental companies that offer different types of cars such as, sedans, vans, mini buses, minivans, compact cars, SUVs, limousines, and even luxury cars and yachts.
Most of the time, rental companies will offer you an option of paying by the day or the week. They will also generally give you the option of choosing between cash and credit card payment. Itâs up to you which way you would prefer to pay. You can also check out the price for your rental in advance.
If you need to fly on a Saturday, you should be able to choose the type of vehicle that is suitable for the trip. Many people find that renting a sedan is a lot cheaper than choosing a minibus. This is because they have fewer chances of having breakdowns.
When you rent a vehicle through a professional service provider, you will not be worried about carrying things in or lugging heavy things. The driver will be responsible for all the handling. You can leave all the worrying and frustration to them.

Each country I visit inspires my writing in different ways. Tokyo is a very introverted city, therefore, can be quite lonely for most. This culture has inspired my writing by reaching out to people in a more personable way through writing letters.
If you know me well, then you know I keep a journal with me at all times. If you know me very well, then you know I write âbooksâ based on each experience I have abroad. This Tokyo chapter of my life has inspired me to handwrite a book; a book of letters.
Here is a letter from today that I wrote and am posting in the last hour. I felt especially compelled to share this one because I believe it is relevant to many of us today.
Letter 6
March 7, 2016
Letter To The Kids.
We are so quick to judge things we can not understand. There is so much irony in that because, really, how can you judge something you do not understand?
We are all guilty of it too. While some of us hound others for judging, they themselves are guilty of it in some way too.
Why? Well, we each have one thing in common: we are human. Humans do good; humans do bad. Humans love; humans hate. Humans judge. Â We fear the unknown, therefore, make excuses that cloud the reasons we are afraid of. Thatâs called being closed-minded.
I am disappointed in myself for my recent judgments toward this new culture; my new home. Culture is why I love to wander off into the world. To learn about other humans is a special gift.
Call it culture shock, but what it really was, was my failed attempt of remaining open. I was too busy comparing this city to previous ones, like my previous hometown in China, and missing the beauty of their differences. I was too busy worrying about those I had left behind across the world, instead of enjoying these new moments I would soon call memoriesâŚ
âThese people are weird. Tokyo is weird.â, I thought. I was under the closed impression that this culture was closed off, depressed and down on their own lives and insecurities. Which could be true, in a way, but thatâs all I was looking at. Perhaps it was the countless remarks, about how [amazing] Japan was, from friends who had once toured these grounds. I was biased because visiting is completely different from living in a culture. Of course, everything always looks sparkling and spectacular on the outside, but thatâs all most see as a visitor: the outside. How about all the work, reason and grime people put in behind all that magic?
For this, I was subconsciously determined to share the negatives and see the negatives of the seclusion and heaviness that lingered the air here. I saw the metro rides as an eerie experience. I saw the extremely mannered bathroom lines robotic. The pristine streets with no litter nor trashcans bizarre. The high quality and beautiful packaging of even the smallest of snacks were ironic, compared to the intense garbage laws here.
The manner and rules of this society were weird to me. Donât talk in public places. Turn your phone on silent at all times in public places. Wait at crosswalks (even if itâs a dead backstreet with no cars in site)⌠I thought it was weird. Especially because others thought Japan was sooo awesome for its bright lights and bustling streets. With its glimmering exterior. No one had any idea of its dark interior.
I was wrong. Not only because the angst to prove the actual negativity was driving me to be negative, but because the âweirdnessâ I was comparing it to was morally wrong. I was judging when I should have been open. The rules of society and manners here were so bizarre.
People of Tokyo are so concerned with the feelings of others. They think about how their actions may affect another. They wait patiently and quietly in lines. They keep quiet, not to bother the strangers they cross. They are careful to respect and serve others. Everything is in a specific order with a specific system. All to keep a chaotic city a clean and pleasant experience.
Ah, the servers at restaurants and markets are there to serve you. The aspects of this culture are so careful and considerate. It is an amazing thing in that respect. Japanese are so polite and clean in everything they do. Now, I see that in a positive way that it is. It wasnât weird, my perspective and attitude were weird. As far as the heaviness and negativity that drives angst in the natives⌠that is real and I canât wait to share the light they need. I will be the weird one only to make them smile.
Just like the kid and their innocent, careful minds; their loving hearts; their open and loyal souls. Children are born pure, and it is our closed minds that train them to desert their open ones.
We should all be kids with the heart, mind, and soul of an actual kid. Children are free with endless love for all; no judgment.
No one is weird because we are all weird. Japan isnât weird. I just was not used to this sort of obedience. We could all learn from Japan. We should all open our minds to the unknown, so then you could actually learn that it isnât so weird at all; maybe even a bit smart.
In a world of chaos, we just need a bit more love, grace, and understanding. If you arenât open to learning, then you should sit down, keep quiet and mind your own business. What each of us thinks, and believes is as far as we allow ourselves to perceive.
In peace.

Standing in line waiting to have my security checks, my feet already beginning to ache from the walk I could feel the apprehension in my stomach. I had all my documents submitted, gone through prep with work as to what to expect but when you see the men with guns all of that drains away. I kept thinking what if I donât get it, what if they donât let me in?! how will I tell work.Â
Inside you sit in a large waiting room, a presentation whirling on the screen directly in front of you. âSWITCH ALL ELECTRONIC DEVICES OFF WHEN CALLEDâ, âPLEASE NOTIFY A STAFF MEMBER IF YOU NOTICE SOMETHING UNUSUALâ I felt sick! watching others get called to their booths - which basically looked like glorified bank windows you started to notice others who were applying for the same visia as yourself, timing them to see how long they were called for.Â
Initially you are called to the first window for them to check your documents and scan your fingerprints (in case you come up on USAâs most wanted list - Iâd like to think you couldnât get that far and still be stood at this window!) Being 5âł1 comes with many challenges, one of which being the height of the window you are called at, trying to scan both thumb prints in one go whilst keeping a cool head and feeling the world watching you was not an easy thing to do. I feel that Iâd earnt the visia just after completing that! Going back to my seat, safe in the knowledge I had no impending prison sentences to my name youâd think I would be feeling pretty confident .. nope... now all I could think was what else could be waiting for me. Will I be taken into a room and grilled about my CV, the company, my home life!Â
The lady at booth 25 was extremely nice enough, I squeaked a quick hello, how are you. Before we got right to it, direct, no emotion, What makes you specialist? ... boom... what makes me a specialist, Iâm 24 years old Iâm pretty impressed to pay my bills on time and have enough tea & coffee incase people call over.Â
Mumbling through my answers she final raised the stamp of approval! I had to grip onto the table to stop my knees going.Â
Leaving the embassy, nothing mattered, I didnât mind that my feet hurt, I didnât think about the 60 emails currently building in my inbox. I was in! Â Â
