I simultaneously regret and don’t regret doing more with this song. Written on the eve of my study abroad adventures in New Zealand circa late 2007/early 2008, I recorded this demo on a consumer canon powershot and then I filled out the rest with a MicroKORG synth, my signature reverb’d harmonica thing, and some stock airplane sound effect.
The song got lost in the shuffle, but I might be my favorite song I’ve ever written. It’s just plainspoken and honest without trying to gussy it up too much. I like the performance a lot. Everything about it still feels so immediate to this day.
