Hi. I have a question. I want to start working out again, but I want to become stronger, pull more weight, etc. But my mom is against that, she said she read that pulling weight is very unhealthy for a woman and can result in uterus bleeding, severe health problems, because a woman’s body “doesn’t work the way male one does”. I’d just ignore her and do it but I have strong anxiety and this thing freaks me out. I wanted to ask someone who knows about this kind of stuff, to know your take on this
Severe health problems only arise due to excessive exercise or doing too much too quickly (trying to lift your own weight immediately or run 10k the first time you go running or do a floor push up immediately without progressing up to it) or doing an exercise incorrectly.
If you are concerned about health risks you can talk to your doctor about it or attend fitness classes because the instructors of those know how to help you become stronger without risking injury.
Exercise helps you to be healthier-like anything, though, moderation is required. It also sounds like your Mom doesn’t know what she’s talking about, so I would talk to your doctor about it and they can back you up. Exercise is healthy for everyone, even if it’s just taking a walk in the park. Not exercising at all in any way is not healthy.
If you aren’t living at home I would say just go for it-you also don’t have to tell her you are.
