"He sat down on the floor, and reached for his socks. He intended to put them on, but could not. An invisible force blocked the commands his mind sent to his body." -> Is this a good way to describe executive dysfunction? (I suffer from it myself, but have trouble putting it into words.) Do you have tips on portraying it in a way neurotypical readers would understand, too?
I think it works! I don’t often suffer from it myself, but generally I would recommend using metaphors and to personify the dysfunction the way you feel. Neurotypical people don’t often understand how someone can simply just up and do something, but luckily, figurative language helps! Keeping the dysfunction described as an entity separate from the individual is likely the best way to go.
if you are ever wondering just how much of a ridiculous pain in the ass executive dysfunction is, i offer for your consideration the fact that i am currently procrastinating making my own birthday gift list.Â
I would like to inform the people who get mad at me that I don't take a shower every day that executive dysfuntion is a thing and I'm not lazy I'm mentally ill
Executive dysfunction is being a bitch, asks would be appreciated!
