I have been searching for a particular book before many of you were even born (I’ve been looking for several, but this was one of the ones I thought about most often). It just... wasn’t in print. Possibly the only printing there ever was, was the worn-out old hardback I’d checked out from the library back in the mid-late 1990s.

Except! Apparently there was a 2002 UK printing? And at some point between last I checked and now, that printing got a US Amazon listing with more than a dozen third-party copies available for perfectly reasonable prices?

So I might have completed that search today. We shall see sometime between December 30th and January 6th.

#excite!!#ineffablefool original post #not good omens #the book is 'Children Of The Dust' by Louise Lawrence #it is post-nuclear-apocalypse YA #there was a LOT of that when I was a kid #i checked it out from the local library many times #also 'Z For Zachariah' by Robert C O'Brien aka the Rats of NIMH guy #(which i already have a copy of and it is very possibly the exact copy i checked out because i bought it from that same library)#(......they turned it into a movie and made it a love triangle? gross i'm glad I missed it)#and there was a third that i remembered as 'Tomorrow's Janey' BUT i have never found evidence of such a book ever existing #so it must have had a different title #the first half was about a young girl right around the time the bombs fell #second half was a girl the same age same name yonks later in the world the survivors made #fiction presented to 12-to-18-year-olds was VERY cheerful back then #ask me about the one that had people trapped in a town populated by what turn out to be not just cultists #but *horribly mutated over the course of generations* cultists because whoops turns out the ol' abandoned mine is hideously radioactive #(have long since accepted that I'll never remember title or author on that one)#are you reading these tags?? hello! you're important!
