For decades now, conservative speech has been suppressed on most college campuses across America. Whether its political correctness, intimidation by college professors, liberal peer pressure, or students self-censoring out of fear, today’s universities are not exactly bastions of free thought and the respectful exchange of ideas they once were.

The writers urge The Times to avoid language that people don’t understand or that underplays the facts.
This is not a political column. It discusses the importance of choosing clear words to communicate ideas. It’s been my observation that some words (like quid pro quo) with clear meanings become buzz words and then, through uninformed overuse, they become less and less clear. Interestingly, all the signatories to the article are women. Do male writers not care about the clarity of language?

I used to use tags to better organise my blog. Lately, I’ve come to the conclusion I use tags to either make sure that people who follow my blog can blacklist some of my entries, or I avoid using them because I don’t want to be dragged into some discussion.
