18, 19 & 25 for the trek ask game
For the Star Trek ask game
18. Would you use the Star Trek transporter? š
I would! I definitely would! The existential crisis fandom and the show put on it is funny but also not as bad as fans make transporters out to be.
19. Share a headcanon you have! š§
More a hope than a headcanon -- Kathryn Janeway is the future Commander in Chief of Starfleet. It's why she's so protected and hard to get to in Picard s3.
Seven of Nine was a Borg Queen in waiting, it's why she's afforded a little independent thought.
Chakotay and Seven were in love with Janeway but thought they would never happen so they became a couple instead. And in the first timeline with Endgame Admiral Janeway, Chakotay was so shattered when Seven died because he felt guilty he didn't love Seven as he should; not knowing that version of Seven felt the same way.
Ezri Dax is best friends with Worf and is the one who keeps admonishing Worf about being passive-aggressive (Picard s3).
25. What's your unpopular opinion/hot take? š
I like Star Trek Strange New Worlds, but I don't love it. Whenever I see Reddit effusively say that Pike is the Best Captain of Star Trek Ever.
It kicks my contrarian side alive. Because there are a lot of great Captains... so staying that statement Is a hornets nest.
Also, Pike's Enterprise and shuttles' internal dimensions DON'T MAKE SENSE.
Voyager Did Not Make Borgs Inefficient and a bad villain. I love the Borg lore Voyager added. TNG with LORE is more guilty of doing that. If Borgs remained too much like in Best of Both Worlds, things would be boring. Also, people seem to forget the way the Borg was defeated in the second episode when Picard told them to 'sleep'.
The hottest take: Thirteen did it better in War of the Sontarans.
I love the Borg Queen. Again, dealing with the Borg would've been more boring without the Borg Queen.
The Delta Flyer is a great shuttlecraft.

Rewrite This Story by idoltina
Six outer walls, five doors, five rooms, three windows, and one balcony. This is the world in which Blaine Anderson has lived for ten years.
About Thomas Barrow - at some point during the show (I can't remember when exactly), someone asked Jessica Fellowes, JF's niece who wrote bts books and stuff about DA, on twitter about Thomas' lack of a boyfriend. Her reply was something like "at the time, it was impossible to be in a happy gay relationship". Which is pretty much bullshit? And it makes me sooo mad that she used such a lazy excuse, when the show's progressivenes was highly unlikely in many ways. Thomas definitely deserved better.
Yeah, a lot of people have pointed out that there are historical examples of gay couples living together fairly openly at that time. Iām not saying it would have been easy, and Iām not saying the show should have portrayed it as easy, but it was possible. Plus, itās fiction. There are other relationships on the show that, while not impossible, would be unlikely in real life because of social barriers, including Sybil/Tom (difference of class, nationality, and religion), Rose/Atticus (difference of religion), and Edith/Bertie (illegitimate child). So how come straight people get beautiful stories about love prevailing in the face of prejudice but gay people donāt get to be part of that?
I think Fellowes is writing for straight people and either doesnāt realize or doesnāt care that he has viewers like me and you who were really invested in seeing Thomas happy.
I sometimes complain about the phrase ā[character] deserves/deserved betterā because itās not clear what it means: ādeserved betterā from the writers or from the world they live in? Those are two different things that shouldnāt be conflated. However, Thomas was screwed over by his writer, and that fact is intimately connected to the fact that the world he lives in is so cruel to him, so yeah, this is one case where Iām down with that phrase. Thomas Barrow deserved better.
@evviejo replied to your photoset āItās a heart-shaped cloud.ā
it's a heart-shaped cloud of fluff and love and cuddles that hugged a demon to death. only Legends could do something like this lmao
one of these days /my/ heart is going to explode because of how much I love them

Not sure if I'm not repeating something someone else's told you, but the correct pronunciation of Stiles' name is more along the lines of mye-TCHI-swav. The "cz" is the same sound as "ch" in chocolate, the "Å" is pretty much the English w, and the "w" is the English v. The "y" is a sound that is closest to the English "i" in words like fish, although slightly different, a bit harder. The stress is on the second syllable :)
Oh my God! Wow, thank you for telling me this! Wow, Polish names donāt just sound rare and beautiful but also hard to pronounce haha! Aww but Iām happy that we got to know Stilesā name!
For the Trek Talks:
evviejo: how about this: what do you love most about ds9?
So many things! I love the worldbuilding, I love the exploration of one section of space, staying there, and reaping the consequences of each decision. I love the exploration of Bajoran faith and spirituality.
It works for me more than the weird Cylon faith on BSG reboot.
I love how it's an ensemble show, that we can explore each of the characters, and the economy of storytelling that a lot of their scenes does 2 things at once. The ARCS, the way there's episodes don't have anything to do with the main plot -- as a kind of breather/beach episode for the fans.
The non-Federation view of the other alien species and the gradual respect they have over it but also a willingness to still question it.
The way it can go really deep into Kira's understanding of herself, her part during the war, and the building of her empathy towards Cardassians while maintaining her certainty that what she's done was the right thing.
The Visitor episode and the way that tears your heartstring, the exploration of the flaws of Federation and Starfleet philosophy -- because the Federation stands stronger when it is questioned and learns from its mistakes.
The continuing war story.
Sisko slowly but surely falling in love with Bajor.
The willingness of the storytellers to let you wallow in an uncomfortable feeling, Sisko slowly but surely falls into a more utilitarian mindset as the war goes on and Starfleet keeps losing and losing people.
The camaraderie of everyone in the station.
Sisko, roping all of his friends into helping him defeat his Academy nemesis in a game of Baseball!
The way that the stories said to hell with Berman and set-up an ending arc for DS9 as opposed to Voyager's last season, which was left to flounder on its own because the producers have moved on to a different show.
(Bitter? Who is bitter? ME. I'm bitter. Unfortunately, Enterprise is going to endure my long and bitter fury).
Kira's arc in the final season. It's just amazing. I am sad about Sisko's ending and, I wish they let Sisko return in an epilogue, I know post-credit scenes aren't a thing in the 90s but imagine!
OF all the the Treks DS9 managed to tell a coherent story over seasons, building off the previous one and knowing all the BTS drama it's amazing we got what we got!
