end of year fic asks: 3, 12, 13, 15, 22, 24, 25
damn woman. okay, here goes.
3. favorite line/scene you wrote this year
I am unhealthily enamoured of my writing in general but I'm gonna go with this, from The Outlaw Killian Jones (and the legend Emma Swan):
A rusty gate hinge, investigation later revealed, had been the culprit behind the Spectacular Pig Hullabaloo of 1893, whereas Miss Swan had simply vanished, with no explanation given or obvious method of egress.
12. favorite character to write about this year
look I will never not love Killian Jones, but since I started writing dramione this year I have to go with Draco Malfoy. He's a character I wasn't especially interested in when I read the HP books but after I fell headlong into this ship and saw the incredible fanon that has been built around him, I may have developed a fascination. It's been an interesting experience going from a canon ship to a very much not canon one, featuring a character that was extremely thinly drawn in the books and fleshed out enormously and in so many creative and distinct ways in fanfic. I feel like I'm just starting to explore him.
13. favorite writing song/artist/album of this year
I don't mix music and writing. idk why I just don't. I know songs are huge influence on a lot of writers but my brain doesn't do that, I guess. I can't listen to anything with words when I write either, so... sorry.
15. something you learned this year
That fandoms can change quite a lot and very quickly, and sometimes the best thing is to just let the change happen and move away from the fandom, even if you hate to see it go. And sometimes in moving away you end up finding something so much better you wonder why you waited so long to make the move.
22. events you participated in this year
CS January Joy - good ships and wood ships and ships that sail the sea
Dramione Double the Trouble - wherever i wander... forever i love
Captain Swan Historical Fics event - The Outlaw Killian Jones (and the legend Emma Swan)
Dramione Pumpkin Spice Fic Fest - emotion in motion
24. favorite fic you read this year
going into a new fandom, you read a LOT. Like, a lot a lot and sometimes you don't always remember or bookmark all the fics you loved. Sometimes you don't even realise how much you loved something until after you've read it and months later it's still in your head even though you can no longer remember its name.
(the 'you' in this not-so-hypothetical scenario is me. very bad at bookmarking and remembering. adhd, etc)
However, I will mention one fic that I think is an extraordinary work of art, even pending its final chapter (which I'm confident will be just as brilliant as what's come before) and that is Love and Other Historical Accidents by @pacific-rimbaud
25. a fic you read this year you would recommend everyone read
like LaOHA above, this is one that I genuinely believe even people who aren't into the ship would enjoy, if they can buy into the characterisations. It's a WIP but updated regularly, and as its beta I can assure you that not only will it definitely be finished it just keeps getting better and better. If you like history and mysteries and travel and adventure and battle couples and magic and snark and slow burn and the upending of beloved tropes and French and incredibly clever writing then this is the fic for you. I love it so, so much.
it is Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love, and I mean. Even the title. Right? Right.
send me an end-of-year fic ask!!
