Monday, January 6: Evile, "Now Demolition"
Although Slayer was an obvious influence on Evile, “Now Demolition” actually had more of a Grip Inc. feel. That might seem like splitting hairs, but with this particular sound the distinction lies in the margins and the riffing was full of Sorychta-like stuffiness and the vocals were far more Gus Chambers than Tom Araya. On that level, the track was a nice callback since Grip Inc. was underrated in their time and had been out of commission for about 5 years when Infected Nations came out, and the oppressive heaviness felt more impactful next to all the throwback groups trying to recreate the glory days of Combat Records. Evile showed precision in their attack, and “Now Demolition” crushed appropriately and righteously.
