Chuck was born May 13th 1967 in Long Island, NY to a Jewish family of Austrian roots. He was the youngest in the family: Had an older brother Frank and a sister Beth. He started playing guitar when he was 9. His musical inspirations came from bands such as: Kiss, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Judas Priest, Metallica and others. He also liked jazz and classical music, which was noticeable in later Death's releases.

Formed in 1983 as Mantas with Chuck Schuldiner on vocals and guitar, Rick Rozz on guitar and Barney 'Kam' Lee on drums and vocals. In 1984 the band recorded their first demo called "Death By Metal". Soon after the recording the band split up and Chuck formed a new band named Death.

Voodoocult was a thrash metal band formed in 1994 by Phillip Boa with musicians of other renowned bands (Death, Slayer, Kreator, Cro-Mags, Faith No More), the band released two albums, and disbanded in 1996 after the release of the second LP and a tour.

Control Denied was started by Chuck Schuldiner to create a European-style power metal/progressive metal band, mixed with elements of death metal recognizable in his earlier band Death. The band was first started in 1996 as Schuldiner wanted to create a slightly more melodic style than was possible with Death. The project was interrupted by the recording of a Death album in 1998 but Control Denied’s debut was finally released in 1999. A second album, tentatively titled When Machine And Man Collide, was partly recorded, but the demise of Schuldiner in 2001, put the recordings on hold.

Chuck became sick in May 1999. It was brain cancer. Despite help from fellow musicians, friends and family he lost that battle. He passed away on December 13th 2001.
