 It was an absolute joy to meet and learn from Rhonda as part of my Chaplaincy Training, and an even greater joy that she made time to connect with me in the midst of a book tour. Rhonda is one of those practitioners who really walks the walk, embodying her mindfulness practice in the midst of challenging conversations about race, injustice, and the complexity of systems. As the founder of WWF's Sacred Earth Initiative and Director of the Loka Initiative through the University of Wisconsin - Madison, Dekila works with faith leaders to mobilise communities in efforts towards combatting and adapting to climate change.

Speaking with Dekila was an absolute joy and a model for how we can mitigate despair and fear in the face of the climate change we are already seeing. Her outlook is infused with a courageousness I found to be infectious, and incredibly supportive. This is a conversation about resilience, adaptation, and liberation.

This week on Everything is Workable is one of those episodes that harkens back to why I started this podcast—I often get to have conversations with incredibly amazing, engaged, switched on folks like S Rae Peoples, and I think these conversations are worth sharing. 

S.Rae is another one of those polymaths out in the world—she's a mother, educator, social activist, member of Reverend angel Kyodo williams' Radical Dharma team, and the principal consultant and found of Red Lotus Consulting. Her work is grounded in a vision of racial equity and justice, and she joins me to talk about the pitfalls of 'diversity and inclusion' mandates, the importance of building meaningful relationships, and how anger can inform us in this work. 

It was a delight to finally record the kind conversation I always seem to have with S.Rae, and a great joy to share it with ya'll.

Evan talks about the transformative power of books, particularly ones that expose us to different perspectives than what we are given through cultural conditioning. She also talks about the way writing can be a spiritual practice, a way to rest in not-knowing mind and connect with a larger sense of what it is to be human.

So, some of you may have seen a blog I wrote back in June—A New Coming Out story. That post sparked a conversation over text with a dear friend of mine, Ewa Louise Lamond. This week's episode is a collaboration we decided to do thanks to that text exchange.

This is a really intimate conversation about identity and belonging, that highlights the way comparison mind and dominant cultural messages isolate us and throw up boundaries to naming and claiming our lived experiences. As two people living with invisible disabilities, we are at different parts on the path of finding community and support, but also speak to the shared impact of ableism and need for disability justice in the world.

I also talk about the experience of belonging to the QILT2BAG+ community, and how that has many similarities to being part of the disabled community, which is also vast in its scope.

In this episode of Everything is Workable, Soyinka Rahim, a Grassroots Spiritual Practitioner and founder of BIBOLOVE—which stands for breathe in, breathe out love—shares the many rituals and practices she has to come back to and live from a place of love.

This is a particularly fun episode, as Soyinka invited me to share music from her album, also titled BIBOLove, so along with a wonderful conversation, you’re also going to get some fantastic music that really invites you to get in your body and move along with it.

Alongside her music, Soyinka also shares various rituals and practices she has for cultivating humility, and connecting with grace, ease and joy. Whether it’s taking time to sit in front of her altar or sit in meditation, she remembers that she is one of many engaged in the same, and this is a reminder of how we are all connected.

Cecilia Cissell Lucas, co-founder of Creating Freedom Movements: more justice, more joy, joins me on Everything is Workable to talk about representation, community building, and equity.

As a member of various organizations and a queer-identified person, Cecilia has gained insights into what it means to live at the intersections of identity and respond to complex social issues with equanimity. She speaks about how she has come to look at the ways suffering impacts some people to a far greater degree than others, and the ways she’s exploring what it looks like to build self-care into organizational practices.
