I admit, here in my journal, that this job was a difficult one to consider. On the one hand, we struck tonight at a business partner, one that has more people than us and is adept at making people disappear with no trail. These people were discovered by the Adders in Gridania and were able to fight them off long enough to make an ordered retreat to Kugane.
On the other hand, theyâd moved a married couple to a safehouse to be tortured and executed, having lost use for them. One of them is an underworld legend, the previous proprietor of the most successful high-end brothel in Ulâdah, where the shadows have ears and secrets pass over glossy counter tops and silk bedsheets. What secrets would this woman part with in return for her life being saved? What manner of influential people could she steer us toward? Of course, I had other reasons to plan this rescue. The woman is the sister of someone dear to me. I shall leave it at that.
I could feel the difference in the planning room when we discussed the mission. Operating in Shirogane, so far away from our home, with very zealous authorities in the sekiseigumi. I told them there could be up to half a dozen guards at the safehouse, as my best guess, and that weâd use nonlethal force if possible. Otherwise, we were operating rather blindly.
We took a boat from Kugane to Shirogane and waded the shallows to shore before it docked to await us near the ferry. It would return for us at a cove further along the beach. We sent Taryn ahead to scout, and I placed Trint in charge tactically. She spotted four guards around the large estate, which sat as a looming shadow, all lights extinguished, on a cliff overlooking the sea. The plan was for her to take two guards from stealth while Sâira would take one by the door and Trint would take the other on the far side of the estate. Their surprise attacks failed, and the alarm was raised at the estate, though not to alert the authorities.
Luckily, Taryn was able to take the one by the door from surprise with her bow while the other was dispatched. Once the alarm had been raised, I used the card up my sleeve and contacted the woman presumably held captive inside. I told her a rescue was in progress. She and her husband were able to break from their bonds and violently kill two guards inside, hastening their own rescue.Â
What we didnât realize was that the woman was so pregnant, she looked like she would pop any moment. Theyâd been heavily tortured to the point that they were barely clinging to life, especially the male au ra, who even had a chipped horn that had to be excruciating. We helped them to the cover where the boats were. Mitsu and Evaleigh had come along and offered help, but Mitsu seemed confused we werenât taking them back to the Rosethorn for expert medical treatment. There was no way we could do so, as we cannot risk associating the rescue with us.
Evaleigh took them to the Compass Rose, a luxury ship that serves as a neutral site for the underworld. They will sail from Kugane to Limsa Lominsa and then be taken to a safehouse. Hopefully the womanâs child survived their hardships. Evaleigh didnât think they would have lasted but days longer.
My brain tells me we were sloppy, our directives to our operatives indecisive. Weâll have to work on that. I also worry that the slavers we rescued the pair from can somehow ties us to the deed. Having proof would be another matter, but would they even need proof to act?
My heart felt good that for once in this ruthless business, we did something of which to be proud. I worry about Tarynâs reaction to aspects of the mission. We seem to be drifint further apart even as Evaleigh praised the rescue effort and doted on the rescued pair. Soon, I can debrief them on what they know.
my brain is just full of them now dkfljsd i blame you but also thank you for opening my eyes!! haha i didnât realize i sketched them in the middle of geometry until i went back to studied and found them in the middle of my notes, soooo ta-daaa i digitally colored it!!

Okay, Iâm intrigued by your summer camp posts, do you have any more Evaleigh stuff
Iâm glad you asked! *drops my several page doc of HCs that hits the floor with a small explosion* Okay, not really, haha, I will spare you that. But, hereâs some of the ones Iâve thought about.Â
Evaleigh HCs:
- Eva can play the guitar and the bass and Annleigh plays the piano (she grew up playing it and performing in church). They cover songs together on YouTube and just for fun and really love doing it... duet partners...!!
- Annleigh likes the idea of cooking but is just. She is so bad at it. Eva, whoâs been helping her mom cook to ease some of the stress for years, finally relents to Annleighâs pleading and starts teaching her. Generally, sheâs pretty good as long as Evaâs helping (read: doing) the work.Â
- Outside of Eva actually being in the kitchen with her and helping, Annleigh takes it upon herself to try and make a cake for their anniversary. It goes. So terribly. She mixes up cornstarch and powdered sugar but doesnât realize it. Eva takes one bite and immediately almost dies, but Annleigh looks so, so proud of herself that she canât bring herself to tell her. Eva eats an entire slice before Annleigh ends up tasting it and realizing how disastrous it was.
- They like to go on bike rides together! Not ones that are super complicated, but more in parks and around the neighborhoods and stuff.Â
- Annleigh loves to take pictures, so sheâs constantly bringing her polaroid camera around everywhere. Eva (though she would not admit it) thinks its very fun to pose for stupid polaroids, so they have like 800 pictures of Eva in a park flashing a peace sign while squatting next to ducks. Annleigh keeps all of them.
- The OâDaniels love Eva. I mean, how could you not, but Annleigh constantly jokes that they would side with Eva if there was a divorce. Sheâs invited to all the family events and theyâre constantly asking about her, which Eva finds very flattering. Farrah gets along really well with Eva too, since she tends to be the middle ground between Annleigh and her stepsister.Â
- On the reverse, the Evaâs family also really loves Annleigh, especially Evaâs younger siblings. Annleigh is really good with little kids from all the years helping run the church summer camps, so she always knows the coolest games to play.Â
- Annleigh doesnât like to read, but Eva does. She does, however, like to be read to. Anyway, any time Eva wants Annleigh to also read a book or theyâre studying, she reads the chapter out loud. It helps her girlfriend learn and (though again she would not admit it) Eva thinks its really fun to do the characterâs voices.Â
:]]]] them,,,,,,,,,,,,, i have brainrot but i love them. Thanks for asking, anon!
âgreat expectationsâ - we are the tigers (everyone lives au, college au)
word count: 908
cw: none that i know of (itâs just fluff)!Â
pairing: evaleigh (eva x annleigh)
---------
âWe should buy a horse.â Annleigh announced.Â
Her girlfriend, who had been lying next to her on the couch trying (and failing) to study, raised an eyebrow. âA horse?â Eva tried to look serious, but the corners of her lips were tilting up in a smile. âWeâre college students who live in an apartment in New York City⊠and you want to buy a horse?âÂ
Their living situation didnât seem to deter Annleigh from the hopeful expression she was still wearing. Nothing realistic ever seemed to deter her. Eva was used to being the practical one in the relationship. Thatâs was how the two of them worked best. The brunette would come up with these incredible concepts and she would somehow figure out how to fit them to reality.Â
But sometimes... Eva thought as Annleigh scooted closer to rest her head on her girlfriendâs shoulder... Some dreams were a little too big for the current budget.Â
âI donât think our landlord would be happy if we kept a horse in here.â The climatologist deadpanned.Â
Annleigh swatted Evaâs arm playfully. âI didnât mean in the house, dummy! How would the horse even get up the stairs?âÂ
Her girlfriend rolled her eyes. âThatâs the only problem you see with that plan?âÂ
Another swat. The brunette collapsed besides her, burying her face into the fabric of Evaâs jacket. This was always amusing to watch, since her partner was at least two or three inches taller than her. Annleigh had always had a flare for theatrics, though, even when the two of them had been in high school. If you were supposed to grow out of it in college, she certainly hadnât yet.Â
(... Eva was secretly glad. She found her girlfriendâs dramatic performances incredibly endearing. Not, of course, that the flier would ever admit this to the other girl.)Â
Muffled by the jacketâs fabric, Annleigh heaved a sigh and then rolled back over so she was reclining back into the couch. She turned her head to look at Eva, trademark pout in place. âOh, no!â The climatologist laughed, tossing the nearest cushion she could grab at her. âDonât you start that with me!âÂ
The pout increased. God, sheâs good at puppy dog eyes.Â
âAnnleigh!â Eva was laughing as she set her book down. âWe cannot be responsible for a horse right now and you know this.âÂ
Another dramatic sigh. âYouâre right...â The brunette groaned, tone akin to if sheâd just watched someone kick a puppy. âI was just thinking that it would be fun to have one again. I could teach you how to ride dressage!â The idea seemed to bring her back to life. Annleigh was very rarely âsadâ for long.Â
Eva snorted imaging that. âIâm down to try, babe, but I canât imagine that Iâm gonna be very good. I think the only time Iâve ever been on a horse was when I was, like, six at one of those carnivals. And all we did was go around in circles with someone leading me.â Â
Annleigh waved her hand, as if to say that didnât matter. âDonât worry! If I could get Farrah on a horse when we were kids, I can totally teach you. She was terrified of them, did you know? She screamed at me for hours after I made her. Something about trying to kill her.âÂ
âYour sister? The one I watched punch some dude on the street for asking for directions because she thought he was trying to mug her? That sister?â Eva was stunned. âAfraid of horses?âÂ
It was Annleighâs turn to giggle. âYeah! Well, to be fair, she was only like nine at the time. Iâm not sure if she still would be. I wouldnât put it past her, though.âÂ
âWell,â Eva teased, stretching and wrapping an arm around her girlfriend. Annleigh leaned back into her side. âNow we have to get a horse, I suppose. Just to see.âÂ
Her girlfriend elbowed her playfully. âOh, so youâll get Farrah a horse, but not me? Thatâs very impolite of you, Miss Sanchez.âÂ
âBabe, Iâll promise that someday I will get you every horse you could ever want. But doing so requires me finishing up this chapter and actually passing my classes.â Eva teased, picking up her book again with the arm that wasnât around Annleigh. âDeal?âÂ
âThatâs an awful lot of horses, love~!â The brunette was smiling, her eyes sparkling. âDonât you know itâs bad to keep promises you canât keep?âÂ
Eva nudged her girlfriendâs foot with her own. âToo late. Itâs been done. You might have to wait like thirty years for them, of course, but I always keep my word.âÂ
The two of them burst out laughing at the same time, the image of them both surrounded by dozens of different colored horses at the age of fifty too much to handle. After their laughter finally ceased, the two of them settled back into a comfortable silence. The only sound came from the rustle of Evaâs textbook as she flipped the pages and an occasional chime from Annleighâs phone to indicate she was getting a text.Â
After a few moments, Eva broke the silence. She was still smiling. âJust... uh... for the record, though...â The flier ran a hand through her brown hair. She was due for a haircut, soon. It was going to end up almost as long as Annleighâs at this rate. Â
â....... just, uh... how many horses are we talking here?âÂ

summer camp au where annleigh and eva go every year and p much grow up together until the start of hs. but itâs one of those ones where you canât have your phone for âpersonal experience and connectionâ so they never get each otherâs numbers. and then they lose touch after eighth grade but they keep thinking about each other and then bam cheerleading competition. there they are again. the titans are warming up and the tigers walk past. eva nearly falls out of formation in shock (they catch her dw) cause like. thatâs like The Girl. right there!!!! right there!!!!! anyway the idea of eva then doing their performance and trying so hard to impress annleigh is literally the cutest idea in my mind.
pov you are already the highest ranking flier in the state but ur having a breakdown trying to make a pretty girl (who has literally been in love w u since the second grade but you havenât realized it) fall in love with you in one performance. your team is just standing there like. oh my god.
Hello! :] I don't know how submissions work, but I drew up an Evaleigh sketch earlier and thought you might like to see it!
Truth be told, I'd never really considered this pairing until you started to advocate for it however many weeks ago, but your two mini fics on them really convinced me of how cute they'd be, so...mission accomplished?
You're slowly but surely cultivating a small but dedicated Evaleigh fandom and I think that's so powerful of you-
Sidenote I feel like a trend is forming where everyone just submits you Evaleigh fanart and honestly I am all for it personally
Paige converted me into an Evaleigh fan and I'm proud
THIS IS SO CUTE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! IM ENCHANTED BY THIS !!!! đ„șđ„ș look at them !!!! Look at them!!! The way they are looking at each other I đ„ș !!!!!!!! This is absolutely what I imagined, too, they are just listening to each other ramble and itâs absolutely adorable !!
Qhskdahdkdhsk aaaa im so glad !! Iâm 100% sure I was very much not the first one to come up with this concept haha, but I am to do my part in supporting them !! Every day we grow more and more powerful ahskdhak
AHSKDHAKSJ it is becoming a trend and itâs my favorite trend of all time because it combines girlfriends with getting to talk to cool people and see cool art and itâs AWESOME thank you to all of you guys !! waking up to things like this honestly make me so excited and I just aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa itâs so cute !!!
a very âstableâ relationship - We Are The Tigers (Pt. 1, 1636 words)
pairing: evaleigh (Eva x Annleigh)
CW: horses are the main focus! otherwise, itâs just fluff! ^^
âââââ
âAre you sure this is okay...?âÂ
Eva had been asking this for the past hour or so. It wasnât unlike her to be chatty when she was nervous, but her girlfriend found this level of uncertainty rather adorable. The horseback rider was so used to being the one who needed constant reassurance. The flier was crazy smart, super talented, and generally just so charming that you couldnât help but love her. Some days, Annleigh felt like she was just... well... Annleigh.Â
So, it did feel a little bit nice to get to be the confident one. Just for a little bit.Â
(And not at all because she liked getting the opportunity to show off for her girlfriend. Nope.)Â
âItâs gonna be fine!â The taller girl gave her girlfriendâs hand a squeeze as the two of them approached the large, wooden structure. Annleighâs boots clomped along loudly, walking the familiar path. Sheâd attempted to offer Eva a pair, too, but the flierâs feet were much smaller than her own. Her girlfriend had just settled on her sneakers. Well, had âsettledâ on them after at least a forty-five minute freak out session about whether she should buy boots for the occasion. Annleigh had assured her that it wouldnât be necessary.
âI already called Kathy and set everything up over the phone. I used to practically live here, so she trusts me to not kill you or anything. Plus, you already signed the release waiver. All we have to do is put this under the door to her office and weâll be good to go!â Annleigh led the climatologist through the large doors, inhaling the familiar scent as she did so. Nothing like the smell of hay and manure to send you into nostalgia.Â
Next to her, Eva was wide-eyed. She gazed around at all the stalls with fascination, taking in all the horses. It was unfairly cute, but Annleigh had to force herself to focus. She couldnât be distracted by her girlfriend was right now. Not when she was the one who was supposed to know what to do for once.Â
As they reached the office, the taller girl retrieved Evaâs waver that sheâd signed last night from her pocket and slid it under the door. It was nice Kathy still trusted her so much. It had been two years since college had started, and she only got to come back to ride over the holidays. Annleigh was grateful for how hands-off her trainer was in this respect. Not that she didnât love the woman, of course. It was just... her instructor was practically like family, after as long as sheâd ridden here. The thought of introducing her to her girlfriend was almost as scary as when sheâd introduced Eva to her parents.Â
(Of course, Eva had never made a bad impression in her life. More than anything, it would have been another âhowâd you land such a catchâ kind of thing. Not that Annleigh didnât think that to herself every day already.)Â
Beside her, her girlfriend let out a low whistle. âItâs so much bigger than I thought it was going to be. I donât think Iâve ever seen so many horses in one place...!âÂ
Annleigh giggled, retaking Evaâs hand to lead her through the aisle. It was pretty early in the day, but the barn wasnât too busy. A few younger kids here and there who must have been homeschooled waved in greeting to the two of them, but the arenas were both empty. That was good. Really good, actually.Â
As much as she tried not to show it, the equestrian was probably just as nervous as her girlfriend was. Maybe more nervous, actually. She really, really, really wanted this to go well. Evaâs interest in horses had been what the two of them had initially bonded over, back in high school. Although sheâd never gotten a chance to ride growing up like Annleigh had, she was pretty sure the flier would have loved to if thereâd been the option.
âAnd... here we are...!â Annleigh stopped in front of a stall, releasing Evaâs hand to open the feeding latch so the horse could stick his head out. The gelding, whoâd been dozing towards the back wall, perked an ear up at the sound of her voice. Blinking lazily, the animal wandered over and poked his nose out, pushing Annleighâs hand as she reached up to pet him. âHi, buddy!â She chuckled, allowing him to sniff her hair. His breath was warm. âOkay, okay. I missed you too!âÂ
Eva was hanging back, gazing at the horse and her girlfriend in awe. âThis is your horse?âÂ
The brunette nodded. âMostly mine, anyway. Heâs leased out right now to a few kids since weâre at college, but otherwise. Yep! This is the one!âÂ
The gelding snorted, kicking the stall once to indicate that he was very much not receiving the ideal amount of attention. Eva jumped a bit at the loud sound. Annleigh snorted at her horseâs antics. âGoodness! Sorryyy, Mister~!â She scratched his blaze. âWhere are my manners? Pegasus, this is Eva! Eva, this is Pegasus.âÂ
Eva looked unsure of what to do, so she did a little wave in greeting. âUhh... nice to meet you, Pegasus?â She was still gazing at him in wonder. Annleigh had to resist the urge to smile. The two of them were going to get along just fine, she could tell. The gelding loved attention, especially from people who would talk to him. It was a match made in Heaven, really.Â
âHere, you can come closer, if you want.â Annleigh opened the gate a little further so Pegasus could crane his neck out. She swatted him lightly as he tried to paw at the stall again. âHeâs assured me that heâs going to be on his best behavior. Right, Gus?âÂ
Pegasus gave a snort. Annleigh decided to take that as a âyes, Mom, of course Iâll be perfect with your girlfriend! Why would you ever worry about this?â sort of noise. Rather than a âMom, Iâm going to absolutely wreck your relationshipâ snort.Â
Please let it be the first one. Oh Lord, please let it be the first one.Â
The shorter girl approached cautiously, hands tucked into the pockets of the jacket she always wore. The buttons jingled a bit, metal catching the rays of light steeping in from the roof and making them sparkle. âUhh... hey there, boy?â Eva phrased it more as a question, glancing at Annleigh for confirmation that she was approaching him correctly. The brunette had to keep herself from giggling. The whole thing was so sweet. She really didnât deserve to know Eva Sanchez.Â
Pegasus, apparently, thought that he certainly did, however. He thrust his head out further, bracing his neck against the door and turning it at a ninety degree angle. It made him look like an undercooked giraffe. Eva snorted and looked at Annleigh questioningly, with a look that clearly read âuhhhhh.... is he supposed to be doing that?âÂ
The rider nodded, motioning her to continue to approach him. âHeâs just being silly! Keep going, youâre doing great!â With her other hand, she was digging through her pocket for her phone. She had to get a photo of this. Pegasus had always hated her Polaroid, but sheâd take iPhone evidence if it meant she could film this moment. Annleigh flashed a thumbs up to Eva as the other girl reached out to pet the horseâs head.Â
âOh!â The climatologistâs grin grew even larger as she stroked his nose. âHeâs super soft!â She gasped lightly as he nudged her, stepping backwards a bit while Pegasus moved his lips down to nibble at her pocket. âUhh. Whatcha doing?âÂ
Annleigh rolled her eyes. âGus, that is very rude.â She stopped snapping photos long enough to push his nose more forcefully away from her girlfriendâs jacket. Please, if you rip that, I will be in so much troubleâÂ
âHe thinks you might have a cookie for him. Even though he knows,â Annleigh said the second part directly to the bay, who was blinking his brown eyes innocently at her. âThat he doesnât get any until after he goes for a ride.â Â
The horse snorted. Pegasus had always been a little too intelligent for his own good. Annleigh could never tell exactly how much of any conversation he could understand, but it was more than enough to be a little unnerving. She glared at him to ensure another round of âdo not mess this up for usâ was communicated. He blinked back.Â
... it was hard to tell if heâd gotten the message or not. Horses were hard to read.Â
Her girlfriend laughed, reaching up to scratch his blaze again. âSorry, boy. I didnât bring any treats. Plus, your mom said no.âÂ
This did not seem to deter the gelding. Almost as soon as Annleigh had gone back to trying to film, heâd returned to his interest in Evaâs jacket. The horse seemed enchanted by her pins. As they watched, he fumbled the rainbow heart one and attempted to pull it away from her jacket, almost sending Eva toppling forward if Annie hadnât moved forward to catch her.Â
âPegasus!â She swatted him back, the bay looking entirely too pleased with himself for his own good, and moved to relatch the door. âThatâs it. Five minute time out. We do not attempt to steal pins in this family!â When she closed the door, she turned back to Eva, dusting her breeches off. âJeez, sorry about him. You go away for a few months to school and somebody forgets all their manners. I donât know whatâs up with him... heâs not usually so naughty!âÂ
â...âÂ
â...âÂ
âUh, babe, I think your horse might be homophobic.â Eva was barely containing her smile.Â
