When I hear voices it's more like someone else in my head replacing my own internal voice than something external I'm actually hearing the way my other auditory hallucinations work. I don't mind it, it doesn't cause me any personal problems. But a lot of so-called psych critical or progressive people in my life insist it's a sign of DID/plurality. In my case, it's not. I think that framework can be really helpful for a lot of people but it's just not something that I can apply to myself and honestly it makes me super uncomfortable when other people persistently try to convince me to adopt the framework. When I bring it up, the response I often get is that they don't mean it as a bad thing and a lot of people are plural and don't know it. It's not a big deal in individual cases because people will usually back off if I have a serious conversation about how uncomfortable it makes me but there are just so many people I have to have that conversation with. I feel like some of these people have missed the anti-psych memo on not pathologising people's benign experiences and especially not doing it without their expressly requesting it.
I hate when people do this. Like at their best psychiatric labels provide useful frameworks which can help people build community, put words to their experiences and cope better AND WHEN THEY ARE NOT DOING ANY OF THAT FORCING THEM ONTO PEOPLE ANYWAYS IS ONLY HARMFUL
