we then drove right into the rain. in our faded red jeep, we chased the storm across the desert, racing against the clearing heavens, eyes euphoric as we stayed beneath the thin margin of blue sky, grey sky. Away from sunlight, from heat, from endless years without rain. endless summers. we’d felt the icy trickle of water down our spines as the air condition hit us at blast, the peace of a raging storm tempting us to sleep. but no, our insomnia heightened as it rained harder, drifting away faster. we chase the storm to the sea, watch it leave us again for years and years, the oceans ripped into turmoil. i had time to spare, too many feelings to kill. you were trying your best to focus on anything but what you had murdered in yourself. to us, the haze of the storm was all that mattered, would ever matter.
