He wasn't sure if it was the fact he had Murakami's latest book in his hands or the fact that he had gotten some decent sleep for once in a decade— but he was in a fantastic mood. A mood that had even allowed him to offer a smile to the barista as she had given him his coffee. Something, to the staff that knew him by name and his cold antics, visibly managed to stop her in her tracks for a good moment. Because the Fable was a handsome man even with his stoic attitude, but the showing off a genuine smile, one he rarely showed, was the holder of quite the force. But all of this seemed to fly pass the man himself as he sat down close to the window with his coffee in hand.
It was comforting hearing those words. Not because he had no one else to seek comfort from and not because she was probably the only one who truly cared about him; but it was because she was his home and that was all he needed. He was a failure more than anything else and it bruised him badly. He knows though, that Mikasa wouldn't be one to appraise--she never did. But being that angry and disappointed with himself only brought more tears to his eyes and that's why he pulled her closer, his face buried deep into the warmth of her scarf as he mumbled in return. "Thank you, Mikasa."
"Oh, It's You."
10. Your muse has somehow been locked in the cupboard for the past hour, my muse unintentionally comes to the rescue… much to their own dismay and surprise.
There was something in his cupboard, probably a goddamn rodent. He personally wondered how a pest like that could infiltrate his own living space when he kept it so immaculately clean and now if an animal was in it he would have to thoroughly disinfect it and burn his house down later. This was all in the name of sanitation, of course.
He came armed with a broom, a lethal weapon when used against mice and men, his eyes narrowed as he cautiously cracked open the door.
That was not a rodent. Well, it was close enough. "Ackerman, what the fuck are you doing in my cupboard? Don't you have other things to do like babysitting your boyfriend?" He raised his broom, still more than vaguely considering beating her out of here with his broomstick anyways. "Get the hell out of my house, you're interrupting my life."

dulce et decorum est { mikasa ackerman }
"My friend, you would not tell with such high zest To children ardent for some desperate glory, The old Lie; Dulce et Decorum est Pro patria mori." - Wilfred Owen
Perhaps the city itself was not at fault, the steel buildings did no harm. It was the people, the humans that tainted it, adulterated the world that had done nothing to deserve the scar of civilization. Levi had never felt trapped, never confined by the three walls that had before guaranteed him a life of peace. He had no chance to feel trapped when he was always putting his life on the line for the sake of simply trying to unravel the mystery of the titans.
However, nothing now was stopping him from exploring, truly. There was nothing but himself refraining him from seeing the endless bodies of water that they called sea, sprawling landscapes of sand, fields of ice that went on as far as the eye could sea, and mountains of liquid flame. If Levi had tried even to find someone to blame for his new state of hopelessness, of being trapped and caged inside this labyrinth of buildings, he would only find himself to berate.
However, despite his almost claustrophobia, there was no true drive within him, no young passion to fulfill his life or whatever bullshit overly romanticized books and media spouted. He wouldn't suddenly fulfill his life purpose if he decided to go sight seeing. There wasn't anything left, was there? Death would simply claim him when it pleased and he had fulfilled his duty, had he not? He briefly thought about telling death to go fuck off and go find someone else to pester but with years of death lingering so close to him, he did not have the heart to tell off such an old acquaintance that had stayed with him for so long when there was no one but himself.
Levi could only feel more trapped now, unfortunately with the presence of someone else. Ackerman, a girl with exceptional skill but an unfortunate dependence on her, in his opinion, highly emotionally unstable brother. Well, to be frank, she wasn't exactly sane herself but he preferred her company to his easily angered and obstinate brother. He had found respite in the shade of the trees, a respite from the noisiness and cacophony that usually accompanied the city. Ackerman had joined him, predictably, she didn't have anywhere else to be anyways and she probably found at least a slight comfort in the fact that they already knew each other. In his opinion, she was slightly too comfortable with him and he didn't take extremely well to being disrespected but they were equals now, in this world.
"At least in these trees we don't have to worry about getting eaten, huh?" He drawled, leaning against the park bench and crossing his legs, his eyes focused on an unwary bird, perched on an unsteady branch.
"Eh, old brat, you here too?"
That voice was too goddamn familiar. Not that he was particularly thrilled to hear it but it was home at least. Levi rolled his eyes, turning around to the only one who had dared to begin addressing him rather informally lately, before he was thrown into the middle of this world instead. He knew what this meant though, there was no soldier truly strong enough to give humanity a fighting chance anymore. Instead of voicing his thoughts, he settled on a dull and monotone reply instead. "Ackerman."
