Picture taken above are my notes about eubacteria. Did you know that there is this theory which states that all living things may have derived from the same ancestor which is a cyanobacteria (which is a phylum of eubacteria)? I find this theory interesting HAHAH. If living things we see now evolved from cyanobacteria, does that mean that if there is a cyanobacteria living in outer space there might be a chance that that cyanobacteria may have evolved into an alien?

Speaking of biology, my school is having its 2nd Bio Exploratory on 13th February! *yey* I’m looking forward to this year’s fair since last year’s was sooooooo cool. I don’t remember much but what’s most interesting is that we get to learn how wine was made :o !

Taq’s Tale
Taq, or Thermus Aquaticus, is a bacteria that live in relatively high temperatures. Found in hot springs and near volcanoes, they can survive boiling water temperatures but prefer 70°C (158°F). There are deep sea archeans that can survive and thrive at temperatures as high as 115°C (239°F). These bacteria could be the descendants (by that I mean copies/mutations) of the first signs of proto-life that might have gotten their energy from deep sea volcanoes, before the sun harvesting bacteria emerged. They could tell us something about the genesis of life.

We've learned much from eubacteria, but in my opinion it is time to move on.
A Bit of Perspective on Aliens
In my final Astrobiology lecture yesterday, our professor made a very interesting point. Humans with advanced technology (by our modern standards) have only been around for about 50 years. Humans in general have only been around for about 200,000 of the 4,600,000,000 years the Earth has existed for. Trilobites, on the other hand, were on our planet for roughly 300,000,000 years, and bacteria has been on our planet in some shape or form for at least 3,600,000,000 years. So it is actually far, far, FAR more likely that if intelligent aliens have ever visited our planet, they did so when the Earth was only covered in bacteria and, seeing as there was no intelligent life on our planet at that time, they probably would have checked off our planet as not being home to any intelligent life and went away, never to return again. On the small chance that they visited when there was more than just bacteria, they probably only encountered aquatic invertebrates such as trilobites and scooted on away.
