Caught off guard, it takes him a second to properly register his mother's gesture. Shouto blinks as he rubs the spot on his forehead, attention taking a swift turn away from the school assignment he was working on.

"What is it... mom?" There's the smallest pause before the last word, the boy still not quite used to calling her something else than mother, let alone her showing her affection so freely and randomly. It is far from unwanted, though; little things like this show him that the kind of normalcy he desired can be achieved, if it isn’t already. That him, Natsuo, Fuyumi and mom can be a family again.

    Rei smiled softy at his reaction, but his question made her heart ache. Ah...that’s right. He was so new to it still. A mothers love. Something he must’ve forgotten while she was-...stuck in a godforsaken hospital.

Her smile may have faltered but she was quick to shake her head and instead reached over to cup his cheek, giving him a loving little pinch.

katsuki’s no stranger to nightmares. he’s had them for as long as he can remember. if it wasn’t about the usual things, like his mother locking him out of the house forever, or his father finally seeing whatever makes the hag hate him? it’s about more recent happenings.

the sludge villain. usj. summer camp. kamino.

and anything else his brain deemed worthy of ruminating on.

so when he wakes up in a cold sweat, remnants of a nightmare speeding his heart, it isn’t anything too noteworthy.

katsuki grabs a spray bottle from his dresser - full of a formula made to deactivate his sweat - and spritzes it on his covers before tossing them in the hamper.

he makes his way to the kitchen on autopilot, pulling out eggs, flour, sugar… baking powder, milk, butter…

   maybe the question was a little heavy, but it had been on hirotos mind lately. hero society, in his eyes it was BROKEN and CRUMBLING. if it kept operating how it has been, what would happen to he heros in the middle of it all?? so focused on saving everyone around them, but not on themselves. a brow raises as the other boy responds to the question, distaste crossing his face as shouto finishes speaking. “save yourself?? and how long do you think you can do that??” 

Blake had heard that he now went to school with his childhood friend. He hadn’t let Todoroki know that he moved to Japan, wanting to surprise him. It had been months before he saw a boy with red-white hair. He was quiet as he sneaked up behind him before tapping his shoulder. Blake hoped his friend would still recognize him despite the newly acquired scars. It would be embarassing if he didn’t.

“Well…” As much as a part of himself hates to say it out loud, Shouto has never really disagreed with this kind of view on their world. After all, he has seen everything that’s wrong with heroes first hand, whether he wanted to or not.

“Well, yeah,” he manages to finish his thought this time, eyes darting to the side as a sour expression forms on his face. “But the problem is, we aren’t living in a perfect world. We can work to fix it, which I hope our generation will, but until that’s done we have to be stronger than the others. For others. To bring them hope.”

   he can tell that shouto agrees with some of the things hiroto is saying, and that’s enough for him to keep trying.  “bring them HOPE??”  he lets out a soft ‘tsk’, head shaking from side to side.  he was going too far now, letting his guard down far more than he should be.  he was being TOO HONEST.  but his emotions were getting the best of him.  he wasn’t going to back down.

     Ochako only got most of the story after, between running from one of her friends to the other, the constant worry taking over her even when she tried to brush it aside in favor of a hopeful expression. They were in so much worst state than herself -- who luckily got out with just a few scratches and many thoughts in her mind. They didn’t need to worry about her when they had so much to do, like recovering.
