The Esso Garage at Redhill Circle, Leicester by Sue Hutton

uploaded for Week 5 of the T189 Alphabet photo a week challenge. C for Circles. Update in May 2012. These canopies were designed by "American modernist architect Elliot Noyes" commissioned by Mobil in 1964, and built in the late 1960s. This garage is the last remaining of its kind in England, and has been given Grade II listed status by English Heritage. 'Dr Simon Thurley, chief executive of English Heritage, said the canopies in Birstall had survived "remarkably well" and that the petrol station was "perhaps the most innovative and distinctive petrol station in England".' www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/1960s-petrol-station-Leice... With thanks to Leicester Mercury for the information.
