I feel like the more I read the more words I have to say about this, so-

Let's start off with the way Rollan was introduced. Trying to get a remedy for his friend? His moral code, refusing to get a nickname? Hell yeah actually

And the way the absolute bombshell of "oh yeah he's an orphan since age 5 btw :3" outta nowhere- lots of exposure but I like it ngl especially paired with the "oh yeah the orphanage is absolutely AWFUL to children also" that we get later on

I love his moral code, I love the way he was so against stealing the remedy that he resorted to begging for it even though he knew it was most likely not going to work, all of it is just- it's really nice

I like the way we got introduced to the entire continent of Amaya, through the eyes of an orphan who lives on the streets. I like the way each of the kids are of different status- Conor being a shepherd's son who has to help pay off debt, Abeke being the daughter of the chieftain of Okaihee, Meilin being the daughter of the best general in Zhong and Rollan being an orphan- it means we get different points of view on each place, due to their status. I also really like the way the different cultures work and their traditions and beliefs and such but I already said that in yesterday's post so-

Anyway this is getting long and I haven't even talked about everything yet

The way the legal system in Amaya works is kinda confusing to me, because how does one punish a child for not drinking the Nectar in time? Or do they punish the parents/legal guardians and only punish the child when they have no one? Either way

The jail scene as a whole is pretty nice, I like the way the jailer was so condescending(?) and such with Rollan, even bringing out the 'mascot rat' (which is going to kick the bucket soon, given they caught it a couple years ago...) to his Nectar 'ceremony'

Also the guy whos spirit animal was killed??? Hello? What happens when one's spirit animal dies? Is it like, over and they just don't have a spirit animal for the rest of their lives? Or what- because that's really sad :(

ESSIX!!!! That falcon is going to be the most serious of the bunch probably- but I'm not sure. It's between her and Briggan honestly. I like the way she just gets straight to business upon appearing and it's so clear she wants to help Rollan and such.

And here we get to the main thing. Zarif- I knew this guy was trouble. I knew he was a liar I knew it lmao but also- DID ABEKE GO WITH HIM???? THERE WAS NO OTHER GREENCLOAK AT HER CEREMONY ASIDE FROM HER VILLAGE'S GREENCLOAK

Did my girl Abeke go with Zarif because if so that's horrible and I knew we shouldn't trust him since the beginning. The way he just seems to appear the moment these children summon their spirit animals was so odd to me

ALSO *THE DEVOURER*??? HELLO THAT NAME???? I'm gonna crash outttt/pos

I like Olvan so far. He seems like a geniuine man and maybe the Greencloaks are mayhaps not as bad as I thought. Perhaps. I'm not sure yet but he protected Rollan from Zarif and that's a plus in my book

Essix. Omg Essix. Somebody go help my girl Essix out because omg. If Essix is indoors, she needs something to fidget with otherwise you're gonna start seeing torn up furniture everywhere. Girl can't sit still for a minute 💀. i.e Meilin comes back to her room after training. Opens the door and there's fluff everywhere. Why? Because somehow Essix broke into her room and tore up the little arm chair Meilin had. And the culprit is still sitting on her throne of disaster 😃

We will keep trying to find a way to fix this.
