Sorry anon but I have even more thoughts about Kaner’s best friends...
On the team he has said that Adam Burish, Patrick Sharp (x) and Andrew Shaw are his best friends.
Toews has been called his best buddy but it doesn’t appear to come directly from Kaner but from the NHL or Bauer or the media. He was asked if Toews was his best friend and side-stepped the answer.
Mike Raut from his Hart Trophy speech is probably one of his best friends.
When I saw this post I wondered when Kaner had said the Sopranos is his favourite show. I googled it and found this article (and realized since it had no mention of Jonny I probably didn’t pay attention to it).
I saw this question and answer:
What is your most vivid memory as a youngster playing hockey? Maybe a memorable goal? A tournament you won?
I made some good friends over the years playing. One of my best friends still to this day is a goalie I played with growing up since I was 7 years old, his name is Brett Bennett. I just remember if I look back on my childhood when we played, we had a lot of good tournaments together. It seemed like one of us always won the MVP. If we won a championship, one of us would lead us to that championship. It was always fun playing with him. It turned into a great friendship and he’s still one of my best friends today.
That name sounded familiar. I remembered that Kaner mentioned him as one of his boys on Twitter.
Also his name appeared in an article last year and it mentioned he was a goalie. [“Sometime that year he and Bennett, his NTDP teammate, were talking about the 2006 NHL entry draft. Bennett, a goalie, was worrying where he’d end up; Kane wouldn’t be eligible until ’07.” I hope they also talked about Toews if they were talking about the draft.] I wondered if he was the one mentioned by Jonny in the ESPN interview, and it turns out he was. :)
