Frida Kahlo was a revolutionary artist and feminist. Her paintings were intimate, personal, included nudity and were seen as revolutionary for her time.

Kahlo made the female self impossible to dismiss. She turned pain into iconography, illness into symbolism, autobiography into politics, and the self-portrait into an arena where gender, nation, desire, disability, and myth could all confront the viewer at once.
