1 Day Until the Party
[September 4th]
A few employees at Fredbearâs had seen Mike drag Jamie around the restaurant and then leave, once again, without his younger brother. And it wasnât just Erik and Scott that were getting annoyed at the brothersâ behavior. Mr. Fredrick had tried calling the Schmidt household to talk to their parents but no one answered. Another waitress had tried talking with Mike to get him to stop bullying his little brother but Mike took her words with a grain of salt.
Almost all of the employees were tired of dealing with a crying Jamie, and it had gotten worse the past week. And now, no one could find him in the restaurant.
Mr. Fredrick was the owner and creator of the Fredbearâs Family Diner and since the death of Scottâs little sister, had only become more stressed out. He was a burly man, with a carefully trimmed beard across his cheeks. To most, he seemed a bit intimidating but employees who were closer to him compared him to a teddy bear. It was true that he had sold the chain to an entertainment company but he had reassured the employees he wouldnât close the diner just yet and would wait a year or so. It gave everyone enough time to find a new job but no one had really started looking.
âErik,â Mr. Fredrick had called his name from his office as Erik walked past. The teenager placed down his tray and approached him.
âYes, Mr. Fredrick, whatâs up?â He asked, subconsciously crossing his arms across his chest. The itch was back and so was the shaking of his hand.
âHave you seen Jamie Schmidt?â His boss asked, glancing over Erikâs shoulder. Mr. Fredrick never seemed to keep eye contact with anyone. Erik shook his head. âSallyâs going to cover your shift. Can you check all of the rooms for him?â
Erik stayed quiet, paused and dropped his hands. He learned to hate Jamie, older than most of the children but he would not shut up whenever he cried, just like Avery-
âMe? Seriously?!â
âJust do it, Erik. You focus too much as you do your job. Consider this an extra break.â
Erik sighed and nodded before untying the apron around his waist. He couldnât exactly argue with his boss no matter how much he wanted to.
Jamie wasnât in the bathroom. Or the under any tables in the Party Room. Or the supply closest. Or anywhere he had access too. Erik even took his chance with checking the Safe Room- nope. This kid was absolutely no where to be found. Until, however, Erik walked past the Parts and Service Room, that he heard an all to familiar sob.
He paused, making sure that he was hearing this correctly. Mike had shoved him into the Parts and Service room. Well, if the kid was scared of Animatronics, he was certainly now scared of Endoskeletons.
Erik opened the door, and Jamie was on his knees- crying of course. He tried not to roll his eyes, and shoved his shaking hand into his pocket. Thankfully, the itch was⌠Manageable.
âC'mon, Jamie, letâs go.â
The kid perked up, looking up at Erik. His eyes were red, tears still stained his cheeks and his whole face was blotchy. And⌠Of course, mucus was hanging out of his nostrils. Erik, tried once more, not to hold back any noise of dislike or disgust.
Within the next instant, the child flung himself towards Erik and held him tightly, hugging him. âThank you,â he muttered through his sobs. âDonât let me go back in there! Thereâs- thereâs a-â he could quite seem to get the next few words out and a few other employees had to calm Jamie out as Erik went back to work.
He ignored the rotting smell from inside the Parts and Service Room.
2 Days Until the Party
[September 3rd] Mike Schmidt had left without his brother again, meeting Erikâs eye as he ran out of the diner and back to his house down the street, smiling wide with glee. The Schmidts, as Scott had asked around, actually lived very close by. Closer than Erik or Scott, even. The first house around the North belonged to the family and it gave Erik the explanation he needed of why they were at the diner so often, and why Mike left his brother here. Jamie could easily walk back home and has many times before. Erik wasnât on break, but when he had to clean up that was relatively close to Scottâs table and the two would manage to share a couple words. The two learned that this was common for Mike, leaving his little brother and teasing him. âMike left again,â Erik stated, correcting his hold on a bunch of dirty plates, "Whereâs the kid?â Scott closed another reservation book and glanced around the Diner. He shrugged. âNot sure, I havenât heard any crying⌠Uh, maybe he was able to keep it together?â Like magic words, a little Jamie Schmidt ran past them, wiping his eyes and running out the door. Erik and Scott stared for a moment as they watched the kid run down sidewalk. âWell, at least he made it out of the building this time,â Erik said, before turning back towards the kitchen to continue his work. If the Jamie kid made it home, it was less trouble for employeeâs at Fredbearâs. This time, they didnât need to calm him down and practically carry him home. That was rare but if Jamie wasnât on their property, he wasnât their liability.
3 Days Until The Party
[September 2nd] Erik was on break and doing his normal break routine- pestering Scott at the counter. "Come on, Erik, please..." Scott whined, ducking to place a few extra menus in a shelf behind the stand. Erik was leaning against it, arms crossed. "No seriously, if there was any one place-" "I'm not on break! I need to work!" Scott hissed out while Erik talked. "If there was one place you could visit, free of cost, anywhere in the world... Where?" Erik asked with a grin, once again repeating the question. Scott let out an exasperated sigh, looking down at the reservations sheet and making a few changes. "California." Erik frowned. Out of all places in the world, he thought, why would Scott pick another state? It wasn't a very good answer and he crossed his arms. "Seriously? California?" Scott groaned and threw down the pen, mumbling on his breath. Erik raised a brow, asking if it was something he said. "No, just, you get famous in California and I wish just maybe I could start a band but..." Scott's voice trailed off, closing the reservations book and opening their planned parties for the next three months. Erik nodded, "Right, you want to play guitar as a career choice." He smirked as Scott read down the sheet, now fully ignoring his friend by his side. "Oh, we have a party on Friday. Uh... Jamie Schmidt. He's turning 5 and there's going to be... 1, 2- 12 people, excluding parents." Scott continued to read the plans, much to Erik's dismay and he let out a groan. He hated birthday parties where most of the kids were older than three. They were rude, obnoxious and made a huge mess which he would have to help clean up. "Schmidt?" Erik asked, "Isn't that the kid who's terrified of the animatronics? His brother brings him here sometimes and he just sits in the arcade and cries." Scott nodded, "Yup, that's Jamie... I think his brother's name is Mike but half of the kids attended are probably his friends..." He groaned once more, pushing himself off the counter. He could hear crying coming from the party room but ignored it. Someone else would help Jamie. Erik hated crying and screaming kids.

9:58pm - 18th Birthday
To be completely honest, Erikâs day wasnât ideal.Â
Firstly, he was exhausted. Nightmares had been plaguing his dreams. He was restless, kicked his blanket off his bed and woke up sweating in the cold air. The last thing he was worried about was catching a cold. Erik woke up late. With less than ten minutes to get to work on time, he had to skip breakfast and throw on his shirt halfway out of the house.Â
He was two minutes late for his shift.Â
Scott put this on my head the second I walked into work today. He said it was cute. I think it's stupid but I needed a hat for the upcoming winter anyway.
Back to When We Were Kids...
âWhat are you doing?â Vincent asks, holding one arm. Heâs dressed up in his pajamas, dragging a blanket behind him.
This is the first time Scott has a sleepover with Vincent. Theyâre 8. Vincentâs parents left them alone, believing the two boys would be fine by themselves. If they needed help, they could call.
Scott is positioned by the bedroom door which is opened. The small boy is reaching up on his tippy-toes to flicker the hallway light on and off. On. And off. On. And off.
Scott turns towards Vincent, smiling wide. âMama told me that this is how you check for monsters! You gotta check multiply times- and flash the lights to keep them away.â He explains, before going back to his post and flicking the lights.
Vincent is oddly offended as he drops the blanket to the floor. âThereâs no monsters in my house!â He exclaims, crossing his arms over his chest.
Scott frowns and shakes his head. âYou can nev'r be too sureâŚâ A pause. The boy closes the door and walks over to the bed and hops on. âYou go check the closet.â
Vincent rolls his eyes, believing this is absolutely stupid. He opens the dark closest and turns back to Scott. âSee? Nothing.â
âTurn on the light.â
Vincent does and Scott screams.
âŚ
In the end, it was a broken hanger that scared Scott out of his skin. The two boys spelt through the night with no nightmares and no monsters.
