ER Appreciation Week | Day Three - Favorite Relationship
John Carter + Lucy Knight
ER Appreciation Week Day 2: Favorite Character
Y’all already know who my favorite character is. However, there are a lot of great characters on this show. So, in honor of those characters, please accept some more text post memes.
john loves putting up the christmas lights.
the very first year he was here, someone had tossed him the knotted cord of multicolored bulbs on their way to a trauma. it always seemed that someone decided to decorate when disaster was most likely to strike; or maybe they realized that there was always going to be another trauma, and you had to try and celebrate halloween or valentine’s day whenever you could find the time. he’d taken the jumble of lights on instinct, trying not to let them break, and asked if he could help.
“sure!” came the reply. “make sure the whole hallway is decorated!”
he’d frowned. “with the trauma, i meant.”
but in the flurry of action and over several people shouting, no one had heard, and john stood with an armful of tangled lights in the middle of the e.r. hallway.
but john is nothing if not keen to impress, especially in those days, and he’s never been one to not do what he’s been told. he’d dutifully strung the lights over the length of the hallway, taking constructive criticism from the nurses when they passed by and enduring more than a few affectionate giggles from susan. dr. benton had startled him so badly he almost lost his footing on the step stool, barking his name and making john blush like he was a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar. peter had let him continue with his work with a reminder to hurry it up, but he hadn’t seemed too concerned. john hummed christmas carols to himself as he worked, and by the time he was finished, the e.r. was in a quiet lull and bathed in a rosy, comforting glow.
mark had patted him on the shoulder with that fatherly demeanor and said, “good work, carter.” susan had cooed over how pretty it looked. peter hadn’t said anything, but he had looked up at them for longer than a glance, and john thought he saw a hint of nostalgia in his expression as he did. everybody seemed to be in a better mood than they had before, and john realized that maybe running traumas wasn’t the only thing he could do to help out.
now, many years of decorations later, john always insists on helping with the christmas lights. he likes the way kerry points out where the color pattern is wrong; he likes the way luka will try and untangle the knots in the cord when he gets a free minute. he likes the way it makes everybody’s eyes seem softer, kinder, more at peace. he likes the way he celebrates christmas with his family, and he hopes he’ll have many more years of stringing lights in the hallway of his e.r. to come.

ER Appreciation Week Day Two: Favorite Character
Again, there are just so many to love so why don't I name a few at the top of my list?
For starters, the incredible Dr. Elizabeth Corday: visiting surgical lecturer and your savior.
She's a brilliant surgeon and a woman who knows what she wants. Not going to lie, she has the biggest BDE out of anyone in the surgical department. Another reason to love her is that is an exceptional surgeon, but she also truly cares about her patients. Remember when she pissed off Romano by bringing in that other surgeon from Northwestern to help save a young woman's voice? I cried.
Next is Mark Greene, naturally.
His character certainly struggles after his divorce and especially after he's attacked but Morgenstern meant what he said when he told Greene that he set the tone. When Greene is in a great mood, typically everyone else is as well. When Greene is in a bad mood, well... But even then, he's still a leader of the people and savior of scruffy abandoned dogs. What's not to love?
And who could forget baby med student turned lovable lead attending, Dr. John Truman Carter?
Okay, so his relationship arcs were always wacky but his relationship with the patients? Oh, come on. The man missed his own med school graduation to keep a dying girl company. Carter is independently wealthy but he still pursued a career in medicine after wanting to help people just as the doctors had helped his brother. Don't even get me started on how he spent his family's money to build a massive free clinic for the low income families of Chicago? Be still my philanthropic heart.
Also.
Suspenders.
If you love John then Jing-Mei "Deb" Chen has to be another favorite.
Another female doc with big dick energy. She knew what she wanted and how to get it. Remember taking down the administration when they denied her the Chief Resident role because of her maternity leave? Oh, no. Our girl saw inequality and she zapped it just like she zapped Carter with the crash cart paddles.
Speaking of female docs with big dick energy: KERRY WEAVER.
This woman single handedly transformed the ER and didn't give a damn what anyone else thought. She's a queer individual with a disability in a position of power and goddammit, she earned it!
Honorable mentions (to prevent this post from being too long) include but are not limited to:
Archie Morris
Carol Hathaway
Abby Lockhart & Neela Pasgotra
And we can't forget Peter Benton. 💛

ER Appreciation Week- Day 3
Favourite Relationship (Friendship)- Dr John Carter & Dr Mark Greene through the seasons.
“Inspire ‘em? How?
Through our passion...what we do.
Passion?
Yeah, you know what I mean.
Carter, you come here every day. Sometimes you’re really cooking and sometimes you’re really not. But you’re here everyday doing your work. One day you’ll look up and maybe 10 years will have passed. It’ll be the sum total of what you’ve done that counts”
day 2: favorite character
kerry motherFUCKING weaver
kerry weaver is one of my biggest role models, if we are gonna get a little sappy. she is strong. she is powerful. she is in charge. and she’s a lesbian!!! kerry weaver has shown me that it is okay to be a powerful woman while also being a lesbian. she was also a big part of my sexual awakening !!!!
anyway i love kerry weaver with every fiber of my being
ER Appreciation Week - Day 7:
Free Space
Kerry Weaver, M.D. and the Crutch of Justice™
Inspired by @laurainnes ‘s post and wonderful gifs. I adore especially that one—Kerry silencing children while her wife in my headcanon Susan looks on.
Thank you so much @everybodyknows-everybodydies for organising this appreciation week! This week has been mad, and I’m glad the wonderful ER community on Tumblr found a way to do something fun and touching. Here’s hoping we can do something similar soon 🤞🏼
