I sometimes wonder how exactly did merlin convince arthur that gwen wasn't herself in s5 but actually you know what I think at that point arthur would just take his word for it

I like to think Arthur didn't notice anything wrong with Gwen after she came back from the Dark Tower because he was so relieved at having her back he just stopped thinking straight. His two braincells just screaming "GWEN IS HERE!! GWEN IS SAFE!!!" all day so loudly he couldn't really focus on anything else.
(This theory also works nicely for that scene where he almost walks away from "the Dolma" without Merlin.)
