the thing that irritates me about the delena sire bond subplot (as iām currently rewatching and havenāt rediscovered how it ends yet) is that yes, elena was listening to damon more and more by that episode, except for when he tried to push her back toward stefan by telling her he was trying to help her when he lied about working with klaus, and yet she still immediately turned around and broke up with him.
like idk maybe she started listening to him so much because he was the only one who accepted what she had become and wanted her to accept herself too? everyone else was desperate for a version of her that couldnāt and didnāt exist anymore, vampire or not. she had died and come back as something she didnāt want to be and damon was the only one who it was safe to explore her vampire side with because he was the only one who gave her unconditional positive regard while she tried to figure herself out all over again. everyone else treated her like a ticking time bomb while damon basically said, āyouāre going to fuck this up and iām still going to be here.ā what a relief that would be!! iād run to him too!! no sire bond required!!
