Another EOG!Brax fanart. A bit younger then originally portrayed.
Firstly, I gotta tell you that I think for sure that EOG!Brax is Braxiatel's first incarnation. That's the only foundation of my headcanons. Secondly, I haven't read all the books or all the audios so I'm not that thoroughly good with canons.(and I have headcanons. What a Fangirl. But it's also true that canonical gaps make more free space and urge for headcanons.) And last, you know how regenerations make up for the weak points of the previous incarnation?
My headcanons about Lord-Ambassador-Brax(before becoming a Tutor) mainly goes on how different he is from the current 'regeneration'. They are the same person but contrastive. Imperfection and perfection: is their image.
His personality seems to show his hostility and superiority easily. Careless, but honest and bold. Not so sophisticated in treating his mask then he is now.
I try to picture EOG!Brax physically unattractive(as portrayed in the novel) ragged, battered, and old. Like an old professor or an worn out warrior. On the other hand: I picture Richardson!Brax as an suave, clean, dazzling gentleman.
I have a whole boxes of headcanon stories or short-toons of him, but they are all about the same thing: Abraxas.
The whole Ambassador-era is about him changing to what he is now. And it would be worth it, painful but worth living. I picture him in dangerous, troublesome business(And physically challenged) due to his job and his inexperience. And I don't mean like The Doctor's dangerous, troublesome adventures. I mean political stakes that you can't find any beauty in it. He might make friend with lesser aliens like The Doctor does, but more like battle comrads then companions. He may get his hearts broken, He might make enemies, because he is not powerful enough, because he is too rough, or show his goodness bluntly. Mostley because he is just young and not ready, he is just starting everything. And through it all Brax gets more and more...more like 'current' Brax.
They are subtle and but like metamorphosis to a butterfly, regeneration brings them all up to surface, fianlly showing the change in one result. Sometimes you have to die to get out of your old shell. Your childhood is finally over.
That is why Brax keeps the second regeneration, because he thinks it's complete and there is no need for more experiments or mending. He did that for centuries with the first body.
So if I see Abraxas in his regeneration, everything makes sense to me. Why he becomes younger, more attractive, composed.(Because he knows its the more gainful form.) Why he never change again, why he goes back to Gallifrey and become a tutor. Why an hungry free adventurer among the stars become a political mastermind type.
If you don't like my headcanon or see it doesn't fit the real canon absolutely not at all it's okay man it's just a thingy I daydream on my free time.
Oh...and I think, probably, those glasses are not brainy-specs. He wears them because his eyesight really is bad, for a Time Lord standards at least. And 'keeps failing and failing through centuries, one day going blind.'(Which is normal actually...) Due to a terrible accident that even Time Lord's healing coma couldn't bring him full-condition, leaving him with broken body and broken hearts, he bares the residue(And a good lesson) for the rest of his life. But even if he goes blind, he's gonna have to regenerate of old age at that point anyway.
This one just has to do with Kid!Brax headcanon (Thus, kinda cheesy) concerning 'Arcalian's Bone' arc. That it's a swordstaff, made of 'Arcalian's Bone', one of the universe's most adamantine metal. 'Arcalian's Bone' is invincible because it's initially a huge mess of matter compressed in to one. So it's very, very heavy. Only few can even lift it without breaking their arms let alone wield it. The sheath staff is isomorphic and dimensionally transcendental so it doesn't feel heavy. Brax can draw it, and wield it freely.(Has little to do with his 'physical' strength but he does try hard anyway) Since he's not a fighter type it's mostly used as a Deus-Ex-Machina tool in few situations of cutting or breaking things.
Also in his later years, another big physical mishap disables him. And he never gets to wield his sword again. His body falling apart in an unrecoverable level through ages is a symbol of his Karma. If you saw my previous fanarts of his regeneration, even his death is a torture. He gets free of his everything through regeneration, including his broken body. (But Richardson!Brax can't wield it too even though he regenerated. The wound involves his place in time and space, he lost the ownership forever. But Richardson!Brax doesn't care because he doesn't need it anymore. It was just his childhood attachment.)
