The Buffers Cafe.
A fictional cafe for my story, Ready or Knott. The Environment model was created in Maya. Using Arnold and Substance Painter textures.
Whelp, another term of Animschool has ended for this young squiggle meister and the final term grades are officially in!
Since this was technically the very last modelling class that Iād be taking during the 3D Character Programme, I definitely wanted to go out with a bang---putting my best work forward while diligently working towards a model that would render me a great final grade.
This was my first time doing Environment modelling too. So basically in a nutshell, I placed quite a bit of pressure on myself for this semester since I wanted to do really well and keep up my A game. Not to mention that this semester was also a little tougher than usual cause one or two things came up in between the months that I had to juggle along with it. A lot of spare time and weekends were lost to homework and work-work. A lot of projects I had started or had planned to start had to be postponed or canned.
Even got to the point where my RL friends had to practically āforce me to take a breakā since I basically succumbed to that work-work-work frame of mind. So pretty much, this was a looooong term guys and by the end of it I was basically singing how much I couldnāt wait for it to be finished so that I can a bit of relaxation time again. But before that, I wanted to know how I did. I needed to see how I did because along with the work-work-work mentality also came the anxiety and worry that I wasnāt going to perform as well as Iād hoped.
At once point I was panicking I had failed in spite of producing my assignment professionally laid out (to the best of my ability) and right on the money.Ā Ā
That being saidā¦you could imagine how pleasantly surprised I was when my instructor for this term told me that I scored an A on my final. Not an A- this time like previous terms. An A for ACTUALLY AN A with a capital A. It was the first thing he told me with a bright smile and not gonna lie I was surprised. Not in the sense that I was doing poorly whole semester and I managed to squeeze this out by a miracle. I actually was doing pretty good whole termā¦despite my juggling andā¦I usually got good critiques. But in spite that, I was still surprised. I was so surprised in fact that I had to ask my instructor twice if he absolutely was sure my grade was an A during our one on one student and teacher conference call. And in spite of confirming twice that yes indeed I did get an A, I STILL was in disbelief. Told myself this still feels like a dream so I waited until the grades were up and yeahā¦it wasnāt a trick.
I did get an A on my final for this term. Wellā¦holy freaking shit!
But waitā¦thereās more! It doesnāt stop there. Not only was my work good enough to score a high passing grade but it was also featured on the Animschool Instagram page. Every once in a while, Animschool likes to share studentsā work on their Instagram page as a means of encouraging folks to join the course by showcasing some of their best studentsā work.
Soā¦again, you can imagine how much my heart nearly imploded on itself when I was casually scrolling through my Instagram feed only to see a familiar environment model headlining the Animschool Instagram yesterday night.
Againā¦holy freaking shit. So yeah guys, I passed. I worked hard this term, probably harder than most terms. I learned a hella lot too because my instructor---Joshua āKojiā Tsukimoto was a fantastic teacher. Again, as someone who pretty much had to relearn 3D from scratch, Iām proud of how much I was able to take away from this semester and I feel proud of the work I was able to put out. It makes it feel satisfying when you get to reap the fruit of your hard work, yāknow what I mean?
Now I get to share my final work with you all on my blog. For Environmental modelling, I chose an environment design by Mateuz Mizark titled āThe Barracksā. When I first found this concept art on Pinterest, it definitely intrigued me enough to want to take a shot at modelling it. Not going to lie, I was concerned I wouldnāt be able to pull it off or worst finish it on time. But I did. Admittedly a little off model in one or two areas but I donāt think you can actually tell since all the elements of the scene are in there. I made sure and modelled in everything.
In the end I rendered a āclay passā version of my model. Josh had demonstrated this during class and I thought it looked cool since it made your design appear almost like a sculpture moulded from clay or some kind of ceramic material. The dark brown clay material I used for my scene kind of makes my model look like itās made of chocolate now that I think of it XD Thatās fine. Chocolate is nice.
But yeah overall, thatās it for me and Environmental Modelling class. Next term is my final semester of Animschool and for my final term, Iāll be doing Intro to 3D Lighting and Iām looking forward to it. Iāve dabbling in lighting and rendering here and there throughout the programme, especially for this newly finished term. There is a lot more to lighting that Iām afraid I donāt know about or fully understand yet. So itād be cool to see what I walk away learning from it this time. I guess Iāll know next month.
In the meantime, time for this squiggle meister to get a much needed break. Not sure how much Iād be able to relax over the next two weeks (since alreadyā¦the busy bee reigns are starting to pull me back into another potential project thatās work-related. *Sarcastic yippie*) but I guess weāll see. In the meantime, thatās all folks.
