ENGL 106 has been an amazing course to learn from, and build experiences I will use throughout college.

Favorite Assignment: My favorite assignment in this course was definitely the memoir, with the Website Project being a close second. The memoir was my favorite assignment in this course because it allowed me to be full of expression, unlike the other assignments, which were mainly factual. I enjoyed telling a story, and being able to be extremely creative and descriptive.

Least Favorite: My least favorite assignment, by far, was the Researched Argument. I hate long research papers, especially worrying on how to cite sources and such. Writing the paper, to me, seemed to be a very dry and daunting task.

Skills I will carry on with: I think the two skills that will best benefit my college and career life are collaborating and generating ideas. Collaborating will be used very often in my business life along with in college since group projects tend to happen in almost every major and profession. Generating Ideas is especially important in any creative project in college, and in business is widely used to sell products and resources.

Rhetorical Situation Understanding: Before this class, I did not know what the Rhetorical Situation even was. It has shown me that every aspect of your writing is important. Even the small details, such as design and genre, effect who specifically will read an article. For example, a very plain design is good for business, but not so good for the general public, since it appears to be bland. I can use the Rhetorical Situation in my college life and occupation by making my work much more appealing and/or professional.

SAMPLE RHETORICAL ANALYSIS

Bee and Puppycat is a short cartoon from the Cartoon Hangover studio, a studio that produces cartoons solely for its Youtube Channel. The show features a female protagonist and a half dog-half cat creature that work for an interdimensional temp agency of some sort. Even this plot summary feels like stretch, because the show is so short (both episodes total at approx 10 minutes) and the show appears on Youtube, so the audience it’s trying to reach seems oddly wide and narrow at the same time. It’s short running time and freedom from TV rating systems make it a really odd, provocative show that exists because of the unique space it occcupies

It’s short running time is a constraint that contributes in a major way to it’s random comedy approach. Because episodes average 5 minutes long, there isn’t time to linger on jokes and plot points, so the show has to keep moving no matter what. The show is probably so short because, since the studio is a youtube channel, it doesn’t have a huge budget, and therefore can’t pay for actors to spend a long time recording or animators to make longer products. The constraint works in their favor overall, however, because it makes the show wackier and more interesting to work under this constraint.
