Task: Boggart & Patronus
Jamesâ boggart had changed a bit over the years.
Until his fifth year, it would have manifested as Voldemort. Sure, he was pureblood, but his family was known for how supportive they were of muggleborns and âblood traitors,â so he knew he would probably still be a target if he ever had to go up against him. However, that one night in fifth year changed it for the first time.
James knew logically that he was completely safe, but seeing one of your best friends transform into a terrifying beast for the first time changes you as a person. He would never tell anyone this, not even the Marauders, but a werewolf was what his boggart would have been for a good few months after the first witnessing of the transformation.
It went back to Voldemort until last month. If he were to face a boggart right now, it would turn into Lily Evans unconscious lying in dirt, her shirt tattered around her and the word âmudbloodâ carved into her chest. He had had brief moments where he was scared for his friendâs welfare, of course, but heâd never seen someone he cared about so dangerously close to death before, and the thought still terrifies him.
On the opposite end, the memory James uses to cast his patronus is very simple, he couldnât even tell you the specific date, but he remembers a night where the Marauders just stayed up all night for no reason, talking and laughing about nothing. James remembered at one point, Sirius said something that made him laugh so hard that he fell off the bed.
His patronus is, big shock, a stag. It means he is a protector, a leader, and has the capability of rebirth.
