Sam and Gabe are getting married and they just want to be able to do planning with their best men in attendance. But with their jobs, getting Dean or Cas in the same place at the same time as one of the grooms (much less each other) was proving to be a little difficult.
Until Sam's landlord starts to be more than a bit difficult.
Another installment in the @spnaubingo series that I am RAPIDLY running out of time for! Whoops! this one might not count. it was supposed to be EMT!Dean and i put EMT!Cas instead because it fit the story better.
that makes 6 stories on AO3 and 2 on Tumblr for a total of 8. I should check to see if iâve made a row yet :D
Warning for a Homophobic character (but he gets put in his place)

Charlie looked down at the mess on her lap, helpless.
âDoes it hurt?â Dean asked. Charlieâs head snapped up. From the tone in his voice she could tell heâd asked her more than once.
âYeah it hurts.â she said, her voice strained. âThis isnât ketchup.â
âWhat were you thinking, Charlie?â
That jolted her out of whatever shock she was feeling. âReally, Dean?â She glared at him. âI seem to recall a certain big brother of mine shouting, âJust a little higher, Charlie! Youâre almost there!ââ
Dean cringed and rubbed the back of his neck. âWell, you were nearly there. And you did get the frisbeeâŠbut maybe you should have paid more attention to the branches you were stepping on.â
âMaybe you shouldnât lecture the girl with branches sticking out of her legs.â Charlieâs voice grew more and more shrill as she spoke.
âThey arenât big branches,â Dean said, lamely.
âThe ambulance is on the way,â said Sam, running to them from the front porch, oblivious to the glares on his his siblingsâ faces. âIt should be here any minute.â
Before Dean and Charlie could resume their argument they heard the sound of a siren in the distance. Dean let out a breath she didnât realize heâd been holding. âThank god,â he said, more to himself than to anyone else.
âIâm Castiel,â said the EMT. âLetâs get you taken care of.â
He kept talking to Charlie--he and his partner--but Dean didnât hear a word. He was transfixed by blue eyes and tousled black hair, by a quirky smile and a jaw covered by just a hint of stubble. He saw strong arms gently lift his sister onto a gurney. As they wheeled her toward the ambulance he heard Castiel ask, âHow old are you, Charlie?â
âIâm sixteen,â she answered.
âIâm twenty-two,â Dean blurted.
Everyone turned to look at him. Castiel gave him an odd look. âThanks for sharing,â he said drily.
Deanâs ears turned pink.
âDonât mind Dean,â said Charlie. âHeâs just being himself.â
Theyâd reached the ambulance; Castiel and his partner carefully lifted the gurney and slid it, and Charlie, inside. âI donât think your sisterâs legs are broken, although theyâll have to x-ray her at the hospital to be sure. And you can see that sheâs bleeding, but sheâd be bleeding a lot more if one of the branches had hit a major artery. Weâll get her taken care of,â Castiel said to Dean and Sam while his partner secured the gurney inside the ambulance.
âCan I ride with her?â asked Sam.
âSure,â said Castiel.
From inside they heard Charlie yell, âI want Dean!â
âDean?â said Sam.
âMe?â said Dean.
They looked at each other and shrugged.
âAlright,â said Dean, handing Sam his keys. âFollow in my car. Be careful with my baby!â
Charlie smirked, as much as she could as through the painkillers. âYouâre welcome, Dean.â
He grinned. âYeah, yeah. I owe you one.â
âYou owe me more than one, I think,â she said, gesturing at her legs. They were neatly bandaged under her hospital gown. Castiel had been right, no bones were broken. Sheâd needed stitches, of course, but it hadnât been much worse than that. Only one of the branches had gone deep into her leg; she just had to stay overnight so they could watch for signs of infection.
Sam rolled his eyes. âSeriously, Dean? On an ambulance? I swear, you can find a da--â
He was interrupted by a knock at the door, and Castiel stuck his head in. âYou ready, Dean?â
Dean smiled. âYeah.â He kissed Charlie on the forehead and said, âDonât wait up.â
âBye, Cas!â said Charlie with a giggle. âTake good care of my brother!â
âIâm off duty,â said Cas with a wink. âMaybe tonight he can take care of me.â
Inktober with the Bunker || Day 5: Medic/Firefighter
Happy Birthday, @ordered---chaos! I donât know what I would do without you in my life.Â
Angels. Revered, beloved, maybe even feared to an extent.
Until they actually made the leap to earth about a hundred years back and human realized: angels too are not without their faults.
In fact, most are downright dicks and their wings always, always get in the way. They canât hide them on earth, so theyâre stuck with giant appendages hanging from their backs. Oh, and they molt once every year, too. Needless to say, having an angel on the team doesnât really make things easy in the workplace.
So when Dean first heard theyâd get another EMT, an angel who decided to move to earth permanently, he groaned. Just what he needed, feathers near the instruments heâs always careful to keep pristine and sterile.
But Cas turned out to be pretty awesome. Sure, he made some rookie mistakes in the beginning, but who doesnât? Heâs smart, heâs great with the patients; the guy obviously knew what he was thinking when he decided to become an EMT.
Hell, Crowley liked him from the beginning, and Crowley is one of those guys who first hate everyone until they prove themselves to him. Before Cas came along, Dean held the record after which he was treated like an actual human being again â three weeks.
Cas, though... well, he snapped after one week of working with Crowley, one day answering, âCrowley, I can handle the fucking stretcherâ in a completely calm tone that indicated he might as well gut him while he was at it when Crowley tried to admonish him, and heâs trusted the angel ever since.
It soon turned out that Dean and Cas are well suited to work together (and maybe â but no, Dean wonât think of that, he shouldnât).
True, Dean was a bit wary in the beginning. For example, angels are not familiar with death. They know the concept of course, and they realize that if they locate to earth permanently they will grow out and cease to be eventually (which means that many of them just stay long enough to see the first signs of aging and proceed to hightail it back to Heaven) but few get what it really means.
So he was a little nervous when he was partnered with Cas the day the angel saw his first dead body. Part of him expected him to flee right there. Still, heâs nothing if not patient when it comes to his job, so he slowly led Cas to the body they had been called to.
An old man. He must have passed peacefully in his sleep. Dean was glad that was Casâ first body, at least.
âGo aheadâ he said gently. âTouch his hand. Youâll have to get used to it.â
Cas nodded and almost reverently reached out for the old man. Then, he closed his eyes and quietly prayed for him.
Dean was a gone right there and then. Not that anyone knows... Apart from his brother. He never could keep things from Sam. Heâs been trying to get Dean to ask Cas out.
As if an honest-to-God angel would ever choose to date him. Dean knows that, no matter how much good karma he builds up with his job, heâs ninety percent crap. Plus, staying with him would mean that Cas indeed chooses Heaven over earth, and heâs not at all sure heâs comfortable with a guy literally dying out of love for him.
So he says nothing, just quietly admires Cas as they work together.
They make a great team, everyone knows it.
Everyone except their supervisor Lilith.
Dean knows Crowley has been after her job for a while now. The day he throws her of the throne cannot come soon enough.
Sheâs annoying, impolite, doesnât care one bit about either the EMTs or patients, and only works at their place at all for her pay check every month.
Dean thought she hit rock bottom a while back, when she berated Cas for finding exactly one Feather on the bunk heâd collapsed on the previous day after a forty-hour shift.
But this might just take the cake.
Pie.
Whatever.
âLilithâ he says slowly, massaging his temple with his right hand, âAre you telling me you want Cas in the back with Ruby Cassidy?â
Ruby Cassidy is by no means a stranger to them. The pure girl was diagnosed with schizophrenia years ago, and there seem to be a few other mental disorders thrown into the mix as well.
Sheâs attacked at least four EMTs in the last year alone.
And hereâs the thing: when she did, she claimed that they were angels and needed to be eradicated.
For some reason, she really hates angels.
And now thereâs an actual angel on their team, and Lilith wants him of all people to ride in the back with Ruby.
âHeâs our newest EMTâ she explains to him, as if theyâre on freaking Survivor and have to strategize who to eliminate.
âSo youâre saying heâs expendable?â Dean fumes. Angel or not, EMT or not, Cas is a wonderful person, and even if he werenât, he should still be protected by his own freaking boss. And Dean has met Ruby several times without being attacked; certainly it would be better if he were to ride with her.
âI am saying if something happens we wonât lose a well-trained operative.â
Well-trained. Of course Cas is well-trained. Anyone who makes it through the training is well-trained, for crying out loud. Deanâs old instructor Bobby made that pretty clear.
But thereâs no arguing with Lilith, and soon enough, Dean is driving the car, Cas in the back.
He pretends that he isnât nervous as hell. They gave Ruby a sedative before she even met Cas, and she was calm when she saw the wings, so he really hopes...
Thereâs a soft giggle from back and the hair on Deanâs neck rises. Then he hears Casâ gentle murmur and knows everythingâs fine. For now.
When they arrive at the hospital, Dean breathes a sigh of relief and hurries to help Cas.
âReally, Dean, Iâm fineâ he immediately assure him when they are alone. âShe wanted to touch my wings.â
âShe wanted to... what?â Itâs not like Dean has wished for the opportunity almost from the first moment he ever laid hands on the black shiny feathers. He assumed it was taboo to even ask. How could he demand to touch something so beautiful?
âI think sheâs actually jealous of us. She wished to fly. She told me herself.â
He can only nod.
âDeanâ Cas says, suddenly nervous, âI didnât do anything wrong, did I?â
âNo, why would you think â â
âThatâs your unhappy face.â
Dean takes a deep breath. âCas, itâs the whole situation, alright? Yes, everything worked out fine, but she could just as easily have attacked you.â
Cas nods. âThank you for looking out for me.â
Dean smiles. âYou know I always do.â
âYesâ and Cas gives him one of his happy smiles, the kind that makes Deanâs heart beat faster and his throat constrict, and then suddenly Cas reaches out with his right wing and gently strokes his cheek.
âThank you.â
Dean doesnât know what to say, so he just stands there, trying to swallow the lump in his throat.
Cas withdraws his wing. âWe should get back to base.â
Dean nods, still feeling the soft touch of feathers on his cheek.
When they return, they find Crowley fuming. âIs it true?â
âIs what true?â
âDid Lilith use Cas as a human shield? Angelic shield. Whatever.â
âSomething like thatâ Dean replies before Cas can, âThank God Ruby was under drugs and rather enamoured by his wings.â
Crowley chuckles but is serious again in an instant. âBut Lilith gave the order? She made you ride in the back?â
âYesâ Cas confirms.
Crowley nods and is gone.
âWhat do you think heâs going to do?â
âHeâs after Lilithâs job; itâs rather easy to imagineâ Cas says simply, âAlthough Iâm not sure how to feel about it.â
âCas, she made you ââ
They were interrupted by Lilith leaving the base.
âLilithâ Cas calls out, clearly trying to see if she was worried about him. Turns out she wasnât. She doesnât even acknowledge them properly.
âQuite franklyâ Dean tells him, âAnytime Crowley wants to take over is fine by me.â
Cas nods, clearly troubled.
âHeyâ Dean says, laying a hand on his shoulder, âYou did good tonight, alright? In fact, you did great. Our shiftâs almost over. Iâll buy you a beer later, alright?â
âAlrightâ Cas confirms, his eyes shining, and Dean does his best not to remember the smile from before, or the touch of â
He clears his throat and steps away.
Over a few beers that night, they talk of their families, and Casâ voice become wistful and gentle as he talks about the angels he left behind to live and die on earth, but thereâs no regret. Dean answers honestly that he could never imagine leaving Sam behind, but the angel just tells him âI know. You love too strongly for thatâ and Dean almost, almost says it, confesses to the sin of loving something so pure, so good.
This night, he goes home alone, as always, so he should be used to it, but his place feels lonelier than ever before.
Crowley makes is move a few days later. Dean should probably have been expecting it, but heâs still tired since e only got four hours of sleep last night (the Skype call with Sam was still worth it, though) and trying to wake himself up with coffee.
âLover boy isnât working today I see, or heâd be by your side as always.â
âWhat do you wantâ he just mumbles tiredly.
Crowley raises an eyebrow. âDonât look so sad Squirrel, Iâm sure he still loves you.â
Dean doesnât reply.
âSoâ Crowley finally declares, breaking the silence, âThis is it.â
âThis is ââ before Dean can finish his question, Crowley dramatically pulls out a scroll and just... lets it unravel.
âDude. Weâre not in an Indiana Jones movie. How many feet â â
âI am quite as handsome as Harrison Ford, just so you know. And this is a 7 feet long list of grievances against Lilith, already signed by the majority of EMTs working here.â
âYou are actually gonna send this in?â
âIâll hand-deliver it. I canât risk anyone destroying this beauty through incompetence. Will you sign? The story of her forcing Cassie to possibly die for a good cause is right at the bottom.â
Of course he signs, even though he still thinks the scroll is a tad overdramatic. But Crowley knows what heâs doing.
âAlright, now all we need is the angelâs scrawl and weâre good.â
âAre you sure thatâs a good idea?â Dean asks. Many of the higher-ups donât think much of Castiel joining their ranks.
Crowley shrugs. âFrankly, my dear, I donât give a damn.â
And thatâs that. He catches Cas at another time, it seems, because when Dean next partners with the angel, he says, âI think I underestimated Crowley.â
Deanâs pretty sure most of them did that, in the beginning, but then, they did the same with Cas.
Still â he never thought the guy would work that quickly, but a week later Lilithâs been given the boot, and they are celebrating their new supervisor donât-call-me-Fergus-if-you-want-to-live Crowley.
âOn this most auspicious of days, may I bring a toastâ Crowley finally declares. Itâs pretty later, and some of them who have the early shift went home long ago, but both Dean and Cas have the day off tomorrow, thank God.
He obediently raises his glass, blushing as he feels Casâ wing brush his side.
âHereâs to Winchester finally admitting that he wants to sail off into the sunset with our very own angelâ.
And just like that, heâs in the spotlight.
Cas turns to him, frowning.
âI canât sail â â
And maybe he can save this after all â
âOh for Godâs sakeâ Crowley groans. âWinchesterâs in love with you, Feathers. Have I made that clear enough?â
Dean canât breathe.
âDean? Is it true?â
Thereâs no point in lying. He squeezes his eye shut and nods.
Heâs not entirely sure what happened, but the next thing he knows, heâs pressed against the bench heâs sitting on and Cas is kissing him within an inch of his life, and heâs pretty sure there are some catcalls, but who freaking cares?
Cas pulls back, his eyes shining. âDean â will you fly with me?â
Deanâs heart beating fast. If an angel asks a human to fly with them, thatâs it. They have chosen them as their equal, their partner, their one and only.
âOf course, Casâ he says roughly and then heâs enfolded in Casâ wings and nothing else matters.
And nothing gets tongues wagging like the news that Dean Winchester will return to become the new fire chief.
Dean Winchester, who many remember as the bad boy in high school who graduated against everyoneâs expectations and left the town, seemingly never to return, on that same day. His little brother, the beloved town lawyer Sam Winchester, never told anyone what happened exactly, but people could easily guess. Their father never was an easy man to live with.
After that, the brothers didnât talk for years, and Dean Winchester was slowly forgotten by all but a select few.
Whenever Deanâs name was mentioned to the businessman Crowley, who was voted âmost likely to succeedâ in the same year the Winchester left and has since done everything to prove he deserves the title, heâd shake his head and smile a secretive, smug smile. Why, people didnât understand. Then again, their friendship always was baffling to most. Why would the never-do-well and the clever ambitious student get along in the first place?
The point is: Dean Winchester was never supposed to come back, and if he did, certainly not as their very own fire chief. If anything, people thought heâd come back as the drunkard his father was, once upon a time.
Sure, they knew Sam and him made contact a few years ago, and that their relationship has by all appearances progressed well, even though he sadly kept silent about it. Now, heâs all smiles and furnishing the house next to his and Sarahâs.
People are curious. Of course they are.
But not even the nosiest could have anticipated Dean Winchester breezing back into town in the same car he left in, a cheeky grin on his face and his husband at his side.
Husband.
Dean Winchester has a husband.
Dean Winchester, who had a different girl on his arm every week, who was the prom king to Lisa Braedenâs queen, who never even looked at another man that way, as far as people know.
His old man wouldnât have been happy about it, thatâs for sure.
The people soon learn that Crowley knew all about that. As he tells Meg in the grocery store (and if he didnât want people to hear, he really shouldnât talk about it in public, heâs live in the town his whole life, he knows), âFour years now. Dean was still too stupid to contact his brother, and they needed a best man... how could I have said no?â
The people listen, but they donât learn more about the enigma that is Castiel Winchester.
They know heâs an EMT, and that he and Dean met on the job.
From what Doctor Moseley says, heâs good at his job. Anna, his partner, knows a bit more; seems heâs quite and efficient, minds his own business.
All in all, he sounds like the complete opposite of Dean, whoâs already reacquainting himself with their hometown and throwing out invitations to a house warming party left and right.
People are curious, and so they flock to the Winchester house â
The new Winchester house. They havenât quite gotten used to there being two of those yet.
That one party is enough to make one thing very obvious.
The elder Winchester and his husband are over-the-heels, passionately, irrevocably in love.
Many a young woman can remember going on a date with Dean (it should be awkward to make small talk with Castiel but isnât) but he never looked at a single one of them as he does at his husband. They get lost in each otherâs eyes for minutes at a time. Then there are the casual touches, the gentle smiles.
âYou think thatâs bad?â Crowley comments to one of his and Deanâs old high school teachers. âShouldâve seen them when they first met. So much pining going on.â
Someone reminds him he wasnât even living in the same city as them, then.
He rolls his eyes.
âSkype is a wonderful invention, my dearâ.
Life goes on.
People talk. People watch.
And they learn.
They learn that Cas is quiet while Dean is loud, that heâs friendly and has a strange sense of humour, and most importantly that he is a good neighbour.
They also learn that Dean Winchester, the same Dean Winchester who parents used to warn their daughters about, is the best fire chief theyâve ever had; and that Cas is quite as adept at his job as his husband.
This doesnât mean they gossip any less about the fact that Dean and Cas make sure their small town gets its very first pride parade or that, two years later, they adopt twin boys.
Destiel / 31k. The one thing that Castiel Novak canât do is hear. He excels in his job as an EMT despite the fact that heâs deaf and has never let anything hold him back from being at the top of his game. That is, until he meets a certain man in the aftermath of a car accident. The one thing Dean Winchester canât do is touch. Communication should be simple with the easy way that people can read each otherâs thoughts through skin contact, but Dean outright refuses anything of the sort and much prefers the gentle caress of fingers on guitar strings. That is, until his dreams of being a professional guitarist are shattered in the accident. Even with the unfortunate circumstances of their meeting, a friendship grows and there is one thing they realize they can do for each other very well: Listen. *** This was really beautiful - I loved the storyline, the characters were amazing. It was funny, touching, and so... gentle.

Dean looks from his brother to the thing in front of him and fires off two rounds- one, chk-chk, two. It smokes and screams and disappears for a moment, just long enough for Dean to dive through space and drop a lit match over the gasoline soaked bones.
More screaming. A smell of fire.
Dean turns and lets all of his attention settle on Sam, whose eyes are closed and whose breathing is shallow.
âHey,â Dean says urgently, kneeling over his brother, gently patting his cheek. âHey, hey Sammy, you in there? You with me? Come on, open those pretty eyes for me. You think you can do that? Come on Sammy.â
Sam inhales deeply, intensely. His eyes flutter open and then back closed.
Dean reaches out and holds them open. The pupils are unfocused; not enough light in the space for them to shrink or respond at all.
âHey,â Dean says. âHey, Sam, come on. Open up.â
Samâs eyes open, but theyâre still unfocused. âDonâ wanna, Dean,â he slurs. He sounds so small all of the sudden. Like a little boy. âDonâ feel good.â
âI know,â Dean soothes. âI know. But Iâve got to make sure youâre okay, little brother.â
âDonâ make me go to school,â Sam slurs. âDonâ-donâ want to go.â
Dean huffs a laugh. There is no humor in it.
âShit,â he says. âI guess that answers my question about what year it is. Hey, can you tell me how many fingers Iâm holding up for me?â
Sam looks at them for a long time before his face cracks and he says, âStop moving them, Dean, I canât count that fast.â Sounds like heâs about to cry.
âOkay, Sammy, okay,â Dean says. âOkay. It sounds like youâve got a nasty concussion right now, okay? I need you to stay awake for me while I call someone. Can you do that? Can you stay awake?â
Sam begins to nod but stops. âFeel dizzy,â he says.
âYeah, I know, baby boy,â Dean says. âJust stay awake, okay? Gonna make a phone call. Just listen to my voice.â
âOkay,â Sam sighs. The word sounds heavy in his mouth, breathed roughly and tiredly.
âHey,â Dean says into the phone. âSamâs taken a bad fall. I need some help.â
âDean,â Sam says, urgently. âDean, Iâm gonna throw up.â
âOkay, Sammy, okay,â Dean says, putting the phone down to help his brother sit up and over, so he doesnât vomit on himself or such that he would suffocate.
Sam pukes and blood comes up with it.
âShit,â Dean hisses. âShit, okay. Hey, Sammy, I need you to stay awake for me okay?â
Samâs eyes have rolled back into his head. Distant.
Bobby is practically screaming into the other end of the phone, but Dean doesnât hear him. Dean doesnât care. Heâs got to take care of Sammy, got to make sure heâs alright. He hangs up and dials Nine-One-One frantically, all while trying to talk to Sam, to keep him present and at least somewhat responsive.
This isnât whatâs going to happen. This isnât what happens to Sam. This isnât his end.
The clock beside the wheel shows four a.m. Castiel is almost done with his night shift when a a gunshot victim call comes through from the dispatch. The address is close enough and he gets there in less that fifteen minutes. Castiel takes his gear out of the ambulance and forces his way through the small crowd of early risers and towards the body.Â
When he is close enough to distinguish a face, he stops in his tracks, blood running cold. The victim is his brother's neighbor - Dean Winchester - the man Castiel has been longing for and dreaming about for years, never mustering the courage to just go by and say something more that hello.
Castiel puts everything he has, everything he knows, every bit of energy and knowledge that he possesses, into saving the manâs life. Dean hasn't died yet, but his breaths are shallower and shallower with each passing moment, and from the rumbling in his chest, Castiel can tell that there is much internal bleeding too. His confident and steady facade breaks, panic fogging his thoughts as he looses hope of ever having the chance to tell Dean just how amazing he is.Â
Adrenaline pumps through his veins, but he barely manages to stabilize Dean and stop the blood loss
On their way to the hospital Dean, conscious again for a moment, calls Castiel his guardian angel.Â
Castiel doesnât leave the hospital until Dean is done with his operation, six hours later. Deanâs surgeon looks at the tired EMT with concern as he informs him that Dean is stable and out of danger. Castielâs blood shot eyes donât blink as he tells the doctor that heâs not going home, and will just sleep in a spare hospital bed until Dean wakes up.
After that, Castiel visits Dean every day at the hospital. Even when Dean gets off the pain medication and his perfusions are taken out, he still has to stay in the hospital for another week under medical supervision.
Whenever heâs not on the job somewhere in the city, Castiel spends all his time beside Deanâs bed, reading to him, watching crappy tv shows together on the small tv screen, talking about music and home grilled burgers. Cas hasnât been to his apartment for a week, at least not for more than the minutes he needed to take a shower and change his clothes.Â
Dean yearns for the young paramedic to hold him, to touch him but doesnât say anything about it. Dean is no idiot, and if the little touches they often share or the longing gazes they throw each other's way were any clue, he knows that Cas desires him just as much.Â
Cas kissing him for the first time takes his breath away, his body overwhelmed with warmth and satisfaction. Cas tries not to disturb Dean's hospital bed and the machines still connected to it, but Dean keeps writhing under him, as much as the position permits.Â
Dean thinks he's a study worthy case of blue balls, because if Cas doesn't touch him right that second, he's going to die of need
But Cas does touch him, and keeps touching him, and kissing reverently every visible strip of skin. And when he's pushing Dean's hospital gown upwards, bunching it in one hand, and takes Dean into his mouth, Dean has barely a moment to remember that yes, they are still in a hospital room, unlocked door leading to a very circulated lobby, before he's coming down Cas's throat, his broken moan disturbing the heavy silence
Cas's shift is about to start and he hates leaving Dean alone, but he knows this is just the beginning. Soon Dean will be ready to be discharged, and maybe Castiel will invite him over for his first home cooked meal after all that tasteless hospital food. And then maybe Dean will want to stay the night. And in the morning, while Castiel would be kissing every freckle on Dean's body, maybe Dean would whisper "I am glad that it was you the one that saved me"
