my pretty story with Elixander (or why I'm a lunatic fan)
People sometimes think I just ship Eli and Alexander because they're "hot" together or because "they look cute", but not for reasons Elvin shippers apparently have to fangirl their OTP, since they have so much fanservice scenes and skinship.
I usually only do like pairings because they look good, or because their personalities would get along fine in a fic and it'd be interesting to read it. With all my other hardcore OTPs, it's like this. Even the one I loved the most before Elixander came around. But, with the two of them, I experienced something new, that I thought would never happen to me. I shipped them because I actually thought they were in love at some point.
Back in their debut days, they'd rely on each other so much since they could communicate well in English, better than in Korean or any other language. So, along with Kevin, they were naturally close. And it showed, they played around with each other more than with the others, they seemed to be good friends even if they had pretty clashing personalities.
Then, last year, they shared with Kevin the title of MCs in Arirang's Pops in Seoul. At that point, right from the beginning, they'd interact in such an intimate yet distant manner, it amazed me. One friend of mine who knew nothing about the group pointed out something I had already figured - "they act like they're flirting".
They did. Whenever Eli talked about his past girlfriends, Alexander would have this slightly jealous, slightly curious look that Kevin just didn't show. Sometimes Eli would either avoid looking directly at Alexander when doing so, or throw these glances at him to see his reaction - then Alexander looked away. All the times they had unexpected skinship, they'd suddenly be nervous and giggly, and when it was planned, they lingered on a bit too much (with either of them looking clumsy or happy). Conversation between them offcameras was a little stiff at times, even though they had known each other for quite a time and it wasn't like that with other members. Also, Eli was quite reticent around Alexander when he was filming for Mnet's Scandal, and Alexander was slightly cold to him in the PIS booth during that period.
It might have actually started when they got closer during the emotionally draining preparations for Man Man Ha Ni.
At that point, I think they were attracted to each other. Maybe not in love, as that is a strong expression, but a crush. I'm sure they didn't acknowledge those feelings, not their own or each other's, but they were there. Not only romantic and platonic, no - there was something sexual going on there. On Eli's part, probably from privation of intimate contact with someone; on Alexander's, out of curiosity about something new. It had just happened without either of them ever realizing.
I'm glad they didn't. I don't know what would have become of their relationship as friends if they did, or how awkward it would have been for them to keep in the group. I'm glad they could say good bye to each other as bandmates, and not as lovers or crushes, because it would have made things so painfully harder. When Eli looked at Alexander, who had just started crying then, and couldn't help but hugging him, I was relieved they were clueless, but I knew what was going on.
Now I think they're over that crush - Eli was particularly hurt and avoided mentioning both Alexander and Kibum at whichever point, unlike any other U-Kiss member, and Alexander never talked about him in particular. They broke ways more deeply than other members, and it just pains me to consider how much worse it could have been if only they knew.
That's why I think I have more reasons to ship Eli and Alexander than fans of any other pairing in this group will ever do. It could have been just me, all of this narration could have just been my active imagination, who was fond of the idea of them together since they indeed looked good as a couple in my opinion, but no one will make me believe I was delusional. I know what I saw, and the fact it was so subtle it would take keen eyes to notice it only reassure me.
You can think this doesn't make sense and I'm being ridiculous, but that would be fine, since all the other shippers who believe their OTPs are real sound the same to me. And I don't actually mind that much. As I said, I never thought they knew what was going on, so they never were really real. Just the feelings, and it could be my imagination. I don't really mind being wrong, but it's be lovely if I were right ♥
