My MBTI is ISTP, 6w7, and I'm a Hufflepuff!

SPOILERS ABOUT THE MOVIE "OBSESSIONS", PLEASE SKIP BEFORE READING MY RANT
The scariest part about the movie "obsession" for me is people watching a genuine movie on the allegory about SA/psychological distress as this cool consumable scary horror media with shocking scenes..
Idk if it's just me but I find it unsettling to see people only treating these kinds of films, books, or medias as just a "cool horror movie with gore, screaming, crying, and shocking scenes". NOT because learning or being aware about SA/psychological distress through a movie is bad, nor because people shouldn't react that way, but I feel so unsettled about how SOME people ONLY learn about SA/psychological distress awareness through movies (they deem "scary" or "shocking").
Actually- it's SO unsettling seeing people turn genuine movies about human reality on forcing love, SA, etc into these "cool, scary, shocking, gore" movie scenes or clips...I'm sorry to say that SA/Psychological distress awareness goes far beyond only watching movies.
I do wonder if anyone would empathize with Wish!Nikki or someone who acts like her if she wasn't a fictional character where her backstory, her thoughts, and her whole life were already narrated to the audience from beginning. It's a harsh thought, but I wonder if anybody would empathize with her or someone who acts like her if she was a REAL person who you knew NOTHING about except for the fact that she is your neighbor downtown who you pass by occasionally.
The reason people sympathize more with fictional characters than real people is because we already know a fictional character's backstory, internal dialogue, motives, etc. We are not given this information when interacting with a real person do we...?
And I'm saying this out of fear. I have seen people around me, and I have seen and SA cases where people don't actually even sympathize with survivors/victims. Yes, it happens. Yes, it's a harsh reality that's not as easy to process as a movie, book, or media.
You know what, I'm going to say it- IT'S SCARY AS HELL for people to consume actual medias about SA/psychological distress ONLY for them to think that the process of defending a survivor/victim and bringing them to justice is an easy process. Words are easy, but making sure survivors don't get retraumatized or further harmed is not as easy as sympathizing with a fictional character. I'm sorry to say this but as someone who received psychological first aid training, it's true. YES you have to defend survivors/victims. NO the process of protecting them, revisiting their support needs, and bringing them justice IS NOT AS EASY as sympathizing over a fictional character.
I feel reminded of that one time an activist from my country, Aurelie Moeremans, wrote a book about being groomed and SAd only for SOME people to treat the book as a MERE "trending sad book" to read and move on from.
The words "Only" and "Mere" are excessively used in this post to show that consuming media about SA or serious issues or getting awareness through them is not the problem, the problem is ONLY treating them as a "trendy" "shocking" or "scary" piece of media, and not a LIVED reality on what people go through.
I'll be on tumblr and go "awhhh tmrblr is such a nice, accepting place! maybe the best fandom ive ever been in :)" and then enter tmrtok and its literally full of miserable hateful people who cant think beyond their next chatgpt prompt
Guys this is so random but has anyone here ever confessed to their crush? How did it go and HOW DO YOU MANAGE YOUR EMOTIONS AND ATTUTUDE TOWARDS THEM AFTER YOU CONFESS??? I NEED ADVICE PLEASE 😭😭😭😭
Tbh I stopped idolizing him the moment I knew that his wife liked some of the most conservative posts...and one time I was like "hmm I don't know maybe the UK gas a different definition of conservatism or smth" but yeah...

Ummm sooo it's about my CRUSH..! 😁😁😁😁
So for context- he once gave me a white paper butterfly...I blurred that one out when I posted it...
BUT I DON'T KNOW IF HE WILL NOTICE IT WAS FOR HIM LMAO
He hasn't interacted with the post in any shape of form tho??? But he is genuinely in an off-campus program sooo
To be honest I'm not even in the Stranger Things fandom but I'm kind of scared for Byler shippers NOT BECAUSE I'm afraid that Byler would not be canon, but I'm scared that if Byler is not canon other people or those who hate y'all in the first place would weaponize that canon fact against you guys to paint Byler shippers as "the crazy one" for hoping that Byler would be canon...
Like- I'M GENUINELY PRAYING FOR Y'ALL to not be severly harassed or bullied OVER A FICTIONAL MEDIA

I am SO tired of the mistreatment of gays in media. I am not talking about works that are clearly LGBTQIAPN+, I am talking about works that HAVE characters LGBT+ included but they NEVER get their happy ending, they NEVER get the love of their lives, they either die or their love interest dies or stay with someone else. They are not allowed to fall in love, they are not allowed to be reciprocated, they have to “accept themselves” alone, as the only thing they are allowed is friendship and family. These, they might get. This acceptance. But LOVE? Oh, no, this is going too far! But THAT’S THE WHOLE POINT, because the point of LGBTQIAPN+ is that they LOVE people whom straight people deem wrong.
With all that being said, I hope you know your fandoms, I sure know mine.
I do think you might be on to something about hating something because its too popular. Because that's is 100% a thing that happens. Ships, shows, movies, books, anime, music ect has examples of this. I cant speak for all anti bylers. I personally have no dog in this fight. I dont care for either ship. I will say that I did see the potential for it in the early days. But its, honestly, the shippers that got me to stop. Not blaming all shippers. But it was annoying to go into the ST tag and seeing nothing but byler stuff, even if there was only 1 or 2 things that happened. This is a horror syfi show and it seems like shipping has taken over everything. Again! Im Not blaming the shippers, people are allowed to like what they like and post what they want! But its kinda what you where talking about, i saw it SO MUCH that it felt like it was being forced on me when all i wanted to see was people talk about all the characters, not just one ship. (Its the same reason I dont care about the jancy or stancy or whoever). Also, shipping is supposed to be fun, but anytime I see a Byler post is always about how angry they will be if its not canon (and thats totally valid! People can feel however they want!) Or how they will cry queerbaiting (its not) or how shipping it wouldn't have been worth it if its not canon. Thats not what shipping is for. We don't ship stuff in order for it to he canon. If it happens great! If not, sucks but we still have all the fancanon stuff! I think its horrible for people to attack someone for their ship. If people want to vent about not liking a ship, thats what anti tags are for. If people dont like a post that is about a ship they dont like, keep scrolling. Its so easier to not engage or hurt someone's feelings. Sorry that this was long. Hope you have a good day 😊
Omgg helloooo anonn-!! :D
(This is the second anon I have ever received MY ENTIRE LIFE lol)
I'm just going to put this out there, and to be honest, fandom cultures like this will just exist, and honestly? Kinda have to exist. It's one thing to (dis)like a ship, it's another if you reach or HATE on users/people for shipping and expressing fanships.
And also, this is talking about fandom behaviour as a separate thing. But then again, peer pressure, in fandoms for example, doesn't always come from verbal coercion
And also? I kinda do ship them but for now I feel like a third person spectator watching this all happen..
As I see more and more hype on Byler, of course, as expected, there WILL be antis/haters/etc that will criticize this ship, ESPECIALLY with Byler being super popular right now, and its popularity is crucial for what I am about to say here, just something to put out there.
And the whole "Anti Byler" thing and HOW people hate on Byler reminds me TOO MUCH of a(n old) theory called "Psychological Reactance". (Explanation in notes/comments)
I GENUINELY with my whole heart believe that the reason why "Anti Byler" is highly spoken of is because when people see, experience, or consume SOMETHING, someone, or a cause is very "trendy" or "popular" (in this case, Byler), their brains may PERCEIVE that their independence of thought, opinions, and views are threatened by said "popular" thing.
What I mean is, if people see or watch something that is "trendy" or "popular", their brains may THINK that they are being FORCED to like that certain popular thing, in this case, Byler.
So maybe people don't hate Byler because of something truly genuine (?), like their character or how they work together as two characters, BUT MAYBE they only do so because their brain thinks that they are being "forced" to like something "popular". Maybe they hate Byler because they feel like (,in their brains,) Byler's popularity inherently FORCES them to like it.
AND THIS is what we usually call "people who hate what is popular".
"Psychological Reactance Theory" was a psychological theory founded by Jack Brehm in 1966. The main point of the theory was to observe freedom in humans and how we act upon and protect said freedom in terms of theory, practical actions, to everyday life.
One of its main premise was that "When someone feels like their independence (of thought, action, or behaviour) is threatened, they will attempt to restore, protect, and fight to keep said freedom"
(OP is unsure of this theory is an actual theory studied in psychology, but besides that, make sure to restudy every claimed scientific theory and don't throw them around like labels.)
