katara keeps the gaang alive mentally while sokka keeps them alive physically. because katara is headstrong and compassionate, never backing down from anything or anyone that needs her help, she’s capable of pulling the group back toward each other whenever they start drifting and always makes sure to remind everyone that staying together is what matters most. while sokka is caring, reliable, and fiercely protective of the people he loves. he is the one worrying about survival; food, money, plans, shelter, time. he’s always thinking three steps ahead, making sure they don’t waste resources or get distracted by things that could put them at risk. katara becomes the backbone and glue of the group because she can’t stand the thought of staying passive and losing the people she loves. sokka becomes the provider and protector because he’s spent his whole life being responsible of keeping the people he cares about alive. they’re both so used to being the anchors in others’ lives that they subconsciously carry those roles into the group dynamic. and because of that, they both end up pushing aside their own needs for the sake of everyone else.

so glad im not the only one who hates the new mechanicus event . why’s everything so goddamn hard 😭 like istg i started playing yesterday and the 4th stage had what— ruin guards ? not only that they healed themselves when they got close to the portal to leave which sucks and i got mad please i was on a winning streak too ☹️ either that or i’m just naturally stupid oops

sokka is an amazing cook. he knows he is and no one could ever disagree with him on this. because all he knew when their dad left is that katara hadn’t had a proper meal for days. because he had promised he’d be the one who’d be there for her. because the joy of seeing light return to his sister’s face after years of nothing but numbness and quiet sobs following their mother’s death was enough. for that moment, all that mattered to him was that his sister needed him and making sure she had a full stomach and something warm to come home to was all the reason he needed to become a great cook. his cooking holds so much responsibility and care as much as love and a smile from his loved one is more gratitude than he’d ever need.

sokka doesn’t really find time to practice his passion for drawing but when he does, he draws katara most of the time. part of the reason and the only half he’d ever admit is that she’s always been there, it’d only make sense that she would be the one to bear the brunt of his bad artistic attempts. but also, it’s because of his deep-seated fear of forgetting her face like he did their mother’s because he can’t afford to lose her too, even if his clumsy charcoal lines could never truly capture how much she means to him.
