It is a bit different from how we teach children to play an instrument though, perhaps it’s because it involves more than our innate musical abilities, and that certain level of musical aptitude is diminished due to the lack of musical exposure when a child is ready for formal instrumental instruction. What song did the early-childhood educators-to-be play in class today with the glockenspiels and xylophones? In terms of developmental skills, children learn to match colours of the scores to the tuned instruments. That touches on cognitive and sequencing skills. If the curriculum covers numbers/ animals/ sight words, instead of colours, numbers/ animal pictures/ sight words labels would be used. Today I found out, via @bigwax, that my friend Daniel Carey pka @eom_ died from complications related to scleroderma. Daniel did the production for “Magic” on The Professor and The Huslter, an album by @rustymk2. I just talked to Daniel last week about “Footsteps In The Dark” by the Isley Brothers; he said that was his favorite Isleys song and we talked briefly about how smooth it is. I kept up with Daniel as much as I could, I know he just got a SP404 and was working on playing his music live with that. He was incredibly talented and I included a few covers of albums that you should play. His beat project Wonder Vision is based on Stevie Wonder tunes and is one of my most favorite projects. His music has been played in every classroom I’ve worked in and I will never forget him. He is embedded in my own artistic fabric and for that I’m forever thankful.
