Reach
I recently finished reading Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell. In reading his book, I was left with one profound message, that “Successful people don’t do it alone.” Now, I have embarked on this journey to accomplish all of these tasks and goals before a certain profound date in my life. If I meet the expectations I have set for myself or if I fail in the process, only I will be impacted by the outcome, for it is my journey and my journey alone. However, I can’t be fully successful without the support from others. Let’s be real. It is all about who you know, where you live, and what you have access to in order to turn wishing thinking and dreams into a reality. It’s all about the reach. Who can you reach out to for support? Who can you touch with your story that is willing to support you? How far will you go in order to reach the goals you hope to accomplish?
And that is what I am going to do. I am going to reach. I am going to stretch out my hand and grasp what it is that I want. If I can’t get it, I’m going to raise my hand as high as I can and wave it around vigorously until I get your attention. I mean, I couldn’t do initially on my own, trust me I tried, so I’m reaching out to you for assistance. And I’m hoping that along this journey, I will encounter those that have longer arms than I do and can help bring the one thing I’m hoping to grasp a little closer to the edge and within my reach.
“Sometimes, reaching out and taking someone's hand is the beginning of a journey. At other times, it is allowing another to take yours.” ― Vera Nazarian
