Chapter 1-5 to 1-Final

Finishing up this post at part 1 feels right. I'm going to read a bit into game Part 2 though. I'm here drinking moscato, eating garlic bread, and comparing RD scripts. It's a lovely night!

I love the reunion of Sothe, Tauroneo, Zihark, and Jill in the extended. It feels like an actual reunion and is a treat for people who played PoR. It's also important for people who didn't play PoR to get a feel for these guys!

Izuka thinking they are spies because ALL the young people are in labor camps is hilarious. All = all because that's how math works. There is no wiggle room to get out of the camps. Even though Jill is in the room with us. He so dumb.

Pelleas calling Micaiah ordinary had to be wild for her. I doubt she has ever been called that before. (It's even funnier when you realize Pelleas is the ordinariest guy aside from feeding his soul to a spirit.)

[Not related, but my friends streamed RD with full voice acting. And I requested that they do Gollum's voice for Almedha. It was amazing and I think of it every time I see her interacting with Pelleas.]

NGL Izuka is right for once about Micaiah's involvement being fate. It literally kinda is. Everything else can be shoved up his peener though.

Izuka just dropped the "Hold! Hold I say!" line. Very funny, and yet this too, can go up the pee hole.

Sothe being outwardly angry at Micaiah about leading Pelleas' army in English vs doing the silent treatment in Japanese is neat.

Fiona not asking to address the behavior of Jarod's troops in the Japanese version makes me sad. It's only a partial line in English and doesn't really go anywhere, but I always liked Fiona's guts. She is a cool character, it's a real shame she is a garbage unit.

Izuka is certainly "sinfully" something. Clever is not the word I would have followed up with though.

They actually gave Zihark a few lines in the battle meeting. I always wondered why he was there. The charm of RD is that minor characters from PoR got some time to shine. It's a shame they cut out some of it.

I've always laughed at the hostages crying "HELP" And Micaiah goes "NO!" It makes more sense that in the Japanese she just goes "!!"

In PoR Tauroneo called Greil a goat, and in RD he calls Lanvega a mule. Clearly Tauroneo is a bull. This means Bryce must be the chicken to Ol' McDaein's farm.

Numida ignoring Jarod to enjoy a vase makes me really want to see Daein pottery. I WANT TO SEE THE PRETTY TOO. Now I need to see if there is any dishes in the background scenes of Nevassa...

I didn't realize Izuka was the creator of iocaine powder. You know what? He and Vizzini share a lot of the same vibes. I like that they have expanded upon Izuka's poison. Not a lot mind you, but usually they're just like "drug, we all know drug." Where this moment with the poison we are getting a rough dosage, scent, flavor, and speed of effect. Not enough for an SDS but that's a lot more than "Ah yes, the poison. The poison by Izuka. Izuka's poison."

Now Izuka is being misogynist. That attribute can be given to Mr Candiru for his next trip!

The irony that Izuka's "child" doesn't discriminate. I don't like this version of a progressive next generation.

I like that Tauroneo is the first to discuss taking advantage of Begnion's stiff arse ranking system. It's a theme that carries over to part 3 very well.

Oh wow, Muarim bringing up the Branded business even before he meets Micaiah is wild. It's kind of an important concept for RD, and I think I prefer him bringing it up to Micaiah first because it correctly portrays the danger of being branded. But regardless I love the moment, it's so sweet.

Oh I love the Sothe/Tormod reunion in the extended version! It's much more personable and not strict business! The Sothe/Tormod support in PoR is adorable and I love that they are friends regardless of whether the player knows it or not. Too bad Rolf didn't get to turn it into a trio of friends.

It hadn't occurred to me that hearing the Galdr of Rebirth awoke something in Micaiah. She acknowledges it in both versions, but I can be dense sometimes. She describes the feeling a little bit more in the extended version which made it click for me. That's kinda neat that she is starting to fall in tune with her heritage through the song, even if it's just a warm feeling.

I love Sanaki calling out Numida for "not knowing" all the terrible things they were doing for 3 whole years.

Jarod be like "Even if Daein if reborn under [Pelleas] it'll collapse again just as soon." And I mean, where's the lie? Spoilers bro, this is why you have to die. He was probably telling all the prisoners that Snape kills Dumbledore.

Jarod to the Black Knight "Have you climbed out of your grave, wraith?" OOH THAT'S A GOOD LINE. Gives me goosebumps.

I like that Sothe is more aggressive to the BK in English. Granted I know they have to make things more aggressive in English since Japanese has more nuance in phrasing.

The extra dialogue with Sothe and Pelleas after Micaiah gets promoted is cute! I guess this is foreshadowing their post-game relationship? I always felt like their marriage came out of nowhere in the English version. But I'm also the wrong person to ask when it comes to that stuff.

Tormod calling Sothe a "true adult" feels like real moments i have with people I know. I love it.

The extended version acknowledges that Micaiah suffered racism because of her brand as a child. I wasn't sure how rough she had it since she appeared to have been decently taken care of. I like the Branded a lot so these are the bits I take interest in. Even though it's sad.
