Queen Hatshepsut's love affair
There are many speculations about the relationship of Queen Hatshepsut with her steward Senmut, but what evidence do we have?
Senmut came from a low-level family, and Queen Hatshepsut gave him many titles; he was her right-hand man.Â
From the many titles Senmut had, he was the tutor of Hatshepsut's only daughter; he was very close to her that some thought he might be her father, not Thutmose II.
Senmut was also the architect who designed the Queen's mortuary temple; he built his tomb chapel on the hill overlooking the temple to be close to her. Like lovers today get matching t-shirts, Senmut and Hatshepsut had matching sarcophagus! Another thing that raised these speculations that there is no evidence of Senmut having a family of his own,Â
so maybe the Queen wanted to keep him for herself. So somethings may seem fishy in their relationship, but we can't really know the nature of it.To know more about Queen Hatshepsut, check our website
