The problem with cultural appropriation in Gyaru.
This is from Ran’s instagram, posted today. I get so sick of seeing non black gals wearing corn rows and braids.
If you don’t understand why this is an issue, let me break it down into a simple, short statement:
When black people do it, we get scrutinized and called ghetto. When other ethnicities do it, they get praised and don’t face the same backlash.
Why should I be discriminated against for wearing a style that actually protects my hair?
I’m glad the comments were letting her know this is wrong. It’s unacceptable for a grown woman to do this in 2026. The internet is clearly available to her, so….i don’t want to hear anything about ‘cultural differences’.
Sorry if this is more negative than what I normally post but I had to convey my anger. Yet another gal icon is caught being ignorant….when will it end?
