Understanding sudden publicity a little bit in the form of the March 10th EF3 tornado, which turned out to be the biggest tornado in Illinois this year.
It’s so surreal, I went from never EVER seeing my town mentioned in anything other than local news outlets to major news stations mentioning it a ton and my town’s devastation being talked about in any discussion related to storms.
A video came up on my feed of some popular British influencer guy reacting to a video of the softball sized hail hitting a place I’ve driven by numerous times.
I still see smashed cars and hail damage and destroyed roofs and the worst of it (where a guy actually died) hasn’t even been fixed, and yet it’s a spectacle.
I’m sure that this isn’t an original experience, since most places I see that are devastated by tornadoes are small towns I’ve never heard of, but I’ve never seen anyone talk about how jarring it is to have your town be a huge deal out of absolutely nowhere. It’s so weird to be IN the small town no one’s ever heard of. Man.
