Well, you need an idea to start with. If you don’t have a particular idea you could ask for prompts in the tag or on your blog, maybe? Or even look up lists of sentence prompts or themes or the likes... I can link you to a few blogs if you’re interested. :)

What I like to do when I start writing about a new fandom or pairing is to write something character driven first. Like even if it’s short but something that really uses a character’s point of view so I can better define my idea of him, his mannerism, the way he talks or think compared to other characters... That sort of things. In my opinion, the more you will write a character the more you will make it yours so don’t be shy about writing pieces centered around Haymitch or Effie (or the two of them) until you get something you find natural for your interpretation of the characters.

Also don’t hesitate to share your stories even if it’s short or it’s not really finished at first (but don’t be discouraged if you don’t get many notes on tumblr, it’s hard sometimes on here it’s a small fandom and it can be disheartening, I would recommend to post both on tumblr and AO3, ff.net can be worth it but I find most of the people are on ao3 nowadays, in terms of platforms it’s where people comments and kudos more so to get feedback it might be the best place).

Ah and also having a beta is cool. I have one for my chartered stories and it’s the best because not only does she check the grammar and typos, it’s also useful to use someone as a soundboard sometimes. Just to fangirl about your ideas or stuff like that. It’s not for everybody of course, some writers like to do everything themselves so figure out what works for you...
