I briefly lifted my gaze to his before letting it drop again, wishing for once my gift could be reversed and I wouldn't have to explain myself quite so frequently. Then again -- would I want him to be able to hear my disagreements with his latest decision? I alone could have the privilege of thinking before my words were made known to someone else, and it had saved me more times than I could count.
"It's nothing," I said, turning another page in the book balanced in my hand, trying to slow my pace so as not to finish it as quickly as all the others. "Our newest... member has requested I don't talk quite so much. I'm simply being hospitable."
Rosalie Hale had gotten on my nerves almost as quickly as I had gotten on hers. If I could avoid her shrill complaining for a time by simply refusing to speak, then so be it.
