The assumption that “pu er shou cha is an artificially aged pu er sheng cha” is the cause and the result of misunderstanding of pu er history, thinking that shou cha was “invented” with the objective to accelerate the “aging process” and mimic “aged sheng cha”, which is grossly untrue. Despite the obvious fact that the concept of aging tea came decades after shou cha was introduced to Yunnan, this assumption also leads to an misunderstanding that shou cha is in some way resembles an aged sheng cha and can be compared paralleled, for educational purpose or not, with sheng cha aged under different conditions with different methods.
